Failed DOT

He refers to a 90 day DOT medical card. When those are handed out it is a essential warning to fix the medical problem within 90 days or run the risk of not being able to get any more DOT cards.

I would not stress about it too much. You are in pain The main thing is to defend your CDL under grandfathering so the state does not take it away from you if they learned later that you cannot get a DOT card right now.

You want to fix the painful problem in your body and be healthy. Thats number one. Trucking will still be around when you heal up. Pain pills of whatever kind of anything really is just a ... covering and a form of wasted time.

When my leg joint at the hip failed last march when I took a fall in my kitchen and rammed my leg into the floor which is essentially concrete slab underfoot to break the fall, the joint failed. Pain pills just covered the problem while the pain increased progressively through the year with loss in mobility as the bone joint died and progressively death following downwards towards the knee.

Finally in October The joint failed entirely and I was trapped in one of my rooms, I called a ambulance. They took a xray and sent me to a bone doctor. Confirmed that the joint needs to be chopped out and a full artifical put in. Asap. that was in december.

The worst thing about last year in my case from March to October, I progressively complained to my pain clinic that his medicines are ####e. And the pain levels have gotten to what caused me to pass out a couple of times which means it's a final body defense against pain too serious to bear. You are out. And down you go. You could be killed in those falls. I had that happen a number of times last year, Shook it off added more pills. Its really stupid being tough.

The ultimate medical defination requiring surgery to replace a joint like that is to have pain too much to do anything.

That took months while I ran the risk of being branded a abuser by my clinic. The doctor treating me was himself previously a bone surgeon who knows what hip joint replacements are. Thats the only reason he put up with me last year. After the surgery no problems and made the decisions to stop the medicine. Towards possibly working in the trucking world with medicines. (Irony...) hauling them out of Memphis.

Anyhow. This year is a better one, but the other joint is failing, and when it comes time to fix it we are going to do it instantly. No waiting for months like last year. The bigger problem is the heart. That the first week of November will determine my future, if I have one. They suspect due to excessive stress and fast uncontrolled blood pressure leads naturally to heart failure. If HF is indicated, then I might have 6 months or a year and then Hospice. There is no point waiting for a transplant. There is not enough money for that kind of surgery. And no point going back on the road.

They may be able to fix certain valves that are bad. Who knows. But we will know more about the problem in November on my part.


We all have medical challenges. The best of us stand on our two feet and tell "Doctor, fix this please soon." dont just eat pills covering a problem that continues to evolve and grow within you like a monster. Forget it. Let the sawbones cut it up and sew it right then heal up. And enjoy the rest of your life. whatever it may be.

 

Im not sure. you usually dont want a 90 day card. You want your doctor to fix you soonest. Whatever that can be fixed with your floor situation and other problems.

 

Do you remember what was the question on the form? If it was list all medications you are taking and you weren't taking them then you didn't lie.
If the question was if you were prescribed any meds..well just play stupid.
If the meds you are taking are not allowed by DOT your doctor should be able to substitute with some that you will be able to drive.
Some one on here should be able to help with a list of meds not allowed by DOT.
You should be ok don't worry about it.

This is Schedules 1 through 4 and all of the drugs in each of them.

Schedule one is automatic banned from trucking.

Schedule two is usually narcotics or powerfully abusive medicines. Banned from trucking UNLESS you have a letter certifying you are not using them anymore and are clean to drive.

Schedule three is less of a problem but still teamed with schedule two vs trucking.

Schedule four I don't know what it is against trucking but this schedule is less of a problem.

Schedule five was retired after about 1978. One example of a schedule five drug would be anti diareeal medicine sold in walmart called loprimade. Commonly overused by withdrawing addicts cut off from pain medicine because it is itself binding to the receptors related to pain medicine inside the body. It does shut the gut down and causes more problems in overdose than its worth.

Electronic Code of Federal Regulations (eCFR)

You have a second problem. The Valium. That class of drugs cannot be prescribed together by any doctor related to "Pain medicine" No one will fill Valium with pain medicine in my state as of June last year. You need a second doctor to prescribe that valium for a specific reason separate from pain management. That leads to doctor shopping as people try to get it.

 

That must be a one hell of a nice note. Explain carefully why you need that note. Once they give it to you make copies and go forth to do battle with the DOT person (NOT concentra...)

DONT volunteer anything. Just yes no and medicines taking.

I'm guessing that you were prescribed these medications while you had a current medical card.

Doctors that are not DOT Certified doctors do not understand all the legalities and what's required in trucking. It's possible for a doctor to prescribe you something that would be fine for you to not take at work for any other job.

Some medicines are okay to take, some medicines they will only give you a one-year card, and some are forbidden.

You are fortunate that you were denied your card, because if those medicines are forbidden and you had an accident and they were just in your system you could be in a lot of trouble.

It would be best to go over the list of forbidden medications and if those medicines are on it, go back to your doctor and see if there's something else that he can prescribe that will be acceptable or maybe there's some other method of pain management.
