1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

35% is a pretty good rate, depending on what the loads are and pay.

Most produce haulers get around 24%. That's because the load pays by the weight. The more weight on the truck , the more you make, which is good...

Sometimes it is better to pay percentage , than mileage.

Some people pay a percentage after the fuel, but 35% of what the truck makes... means Gross., Not after what is deducted from the truck..

I would check into it. ,, It's Work!

Since this post is already a week old, my contribution may be late. I read somewhere else on this forum where it was mentioned that there are a lot of Craigslist scams targeting CDL drivers. A previous poster in this thread pointed out that they are harvesting email addresses, and that might be true.

Of more concern is two things. If they send you an application to be filled out, then you are giving them all the info they need to steal your identity. It seems like I read in the same posts that some of them are also asking for up front money for whatever reason they create.

So be very careful with Craigs list help wanted ads.

Under the Job section for Transport Category, you'll find a lot of Trucking Recruiters hanging on there...

Some are scams that give no Contact Information. Craigslist will ask if there is a contact info.for job listings. If not? then flag them.
People should have enough common sense to figure if it's a scam or not. Don't post your Social security # on any apps.
There are true postings on there too.
It's better to work by Phone Numbers only.

I'd still ask if that 35% is AFTER the truck or before! Big difference when you were thinking 35% before the fuel and cost only to find out a that it's AFTER all the costs! I did that years ago. He didn't have to worry about the second check as I was out the door! But 35 is good!

what it means is ignore the ad. at best, it might be someone trying to pull the old 1099 tax evasion scam (work an employee as an "independent contractor.") sorry, but unless you own the truck you're driving (IE - owner operator,) you're NOT an independent contractor, nor can you legally be classified as such. at worst, it might be an ID theft attempt like others have mentioned. I will NOT reply to an ad for employment if the name of the company is not given (why would they make it a secret who you're going to be working for?) an unverifiable phone number isn't enough. do NOT give personal info on a generic "job application" website.

With the low rates out there the pay is not as good as it seems, .90 cpm at 35% is .31.5 cpm not so good.

That's not completely true. It applies if you're driving for an O/O that runs for .90cpm, but not for one that only moves the truck for $2.50 and higher.

If I hire a driver for my truck, I will pay him a percentage. I absolutely will not pay cpm. The best motor carriers pay their O/O trucks percentage, and I believe the best fleet owners pay their drivers percentage.

In this business ya don't get a 1099 unless you own the truck you're driving, usually. And be very careful dealing with craigslist......
