Been looking at new trucks for about 2 years now, but up until 6 months ago it was a long wait time to get trucks ordered because order banks were full, things are getting back to normal now and I think by the first of the year it will be a good time to buy, at least for us.

Yes it got me started. I have seen my friend start out with one ton moving copart vehicles. Moved up, then moved up again, now in big truck he has experienced all the problems after each quote “ moved up “ Now having clients and bigger equipment he can really go after it. No offense to the guys starting out in one ton. 24Hotshot says the 5500 might have been better. Once you are out there and see what is what and talk to a guy like Kansas Transit it makes a lot of sense bigger is better. This coming fro a guy that has always ran under 26. Thus the name Lite Bug.

I don't mean a 5500 is better, just would have been a better start for me.
4 car is where I want to be. I sell myself as expedited delivery and spending a couple days filling up a big rig is not for me.
I spoke to infinity trailers and they say the 3500 can handle the GN450 so I'm thinking hard on getting it. I can haul 4 small cars, want to be able to haul 4 large cars and not go over 53 ft.

I want the comfort of a single axle sleeper but can't justify the loss I'd have to take in order to sell my new truck to be able to afford a semi and have enough money to take care of it.
I can rely on my truck for at least 150-200k without major issues, can't say the same for a million mile truck.

How much would it cost to rebuild the DD13 and transmission on those trucks when the time comes?

You hit the nail on the head, "Can't justify the loss on a new truck" That is why so many guys get upside down in this business, I already have one truck at almost 1.3 mil with no signs of slowing down, only reason I'm not selling that one first is the driver doesn't want to part with it, I fully expect that truck to hit 1.5 with no major engine or tranny work. "IF" you have the work, you should easily be able to pay off a 39,000 truck AND trailer in a year, THAT is how you avoid getting upside down, just my opinion.

Look at it another way, what is the new truck and new trailer payment per month for 5 years? 39,000 for 5 years would only be 650.00 per month.

They never spend a couple of days filling up truck. They will run from Columbus to Nashville maybe run down and back Tuesday thru Friday. Stay at the auctions making night drops at the Dealership. Turn down day drops to save time. Will also wait out the rush hours at the truckstop. Every drop is expedited.
