Yogi4, by feeling bad you already show a good spirit and a good attitude. I am sure that alone will bring you good karma. Don't feel bad, though. Those that can move on, will move on, those that can't keep up, will give up, and then when the economy picks up, there will be those who go back to what they did before they became truckers, and only the real truckers will remain. A trucker's life certainly isn't for everyone. My only recommendation is that you need to be careful about the leasing program. It is at the moment a very company sided lease. When the frieght is moving, it is a super deal, but when it's not, you'll be working just to make that truck payment with the possiblity of weeks without pay. My partner is JRoger, and thank God he had the foresight to save money when the going was good and he was training. Right now he's had I think 3 weeks without pay because he is making up truck payments. He's in the hole about 900 dollars and not getting the miles he needs to catch up. He's about to use up all his savings. There are a few L/o that are doing OK. I know of one who is doing really well, but he trains all the time. I think he is up to his 40th or 50th trainee. Use Central for what it is good for, especially if truck driving is your calling. Use it to get your foot in the door. Most places that hire want a year to two years experience with a clean record. After a year, if Central hasn't picked up, you have what you need to move on. Just don't go into this buisness expecting to make tons of money right now - like they make it seem you will. Go into it smart. Save as much as you can. Be out on the road as much as you can. Learn as much as you can. Keep up with this thread. There are several experienced people in here that you can learn from. If you do all that, then I think Central will have been worth working for.

 

I'm sure by now he does know or maybe not depending on if Central has said anything to him . I'm not to worried about it. On my cell phone, I have him on my reject list so I don't have to field any calls about it. If any of the students that are going out with a trainer read this, ask your trainer how many students he has had and how many made it to upgrade. If the person says "I have lost the last 4 students" calmly walk up to the training department and request another trainer. Don't make a scene. Request another trainer. If they ask why, tell them the truth or just tell them that you are not comfortable.

 

Bullet you have to remember not all make it to upgrade b/c of the trainer. Some get out there and realize this isn't for them or they miss their families to much. Its hard to tell if you can cut it without going out on the road for awhile. And like everything in life what works out for one may not for the next. I know some trainers are great trainers they just get people that figure out quickly or some not so quickly that they just can't be away from their families the amount of time needed to get the job done and make any money. I agree on finding out how they have done but try to dig harder and find out why they didn't make it to upgrade! That's just my two cents worth.

 

1BAD UPDATE:He left WVC heading to somewhere in Co last night. After I got that phone call and waited up for another few hours found out his truck took a major crap on him. The electrical system shut down coming down some mountain. The transmission was messing up wouldn't stay in 4th, 7th or 8th gear (I think that is what he said), the air conditioner went out, and the list goes on and on. OTR got him to some TA and had most of it fixed or patched so he can get back to WVC. Repairs to the tune of about 5k on a comcheck. He is getting a little sleep then heading back to WVC to hopefully get yet another truck. Boy what an adventure.

that aint good. tell him i am sorry he took a trip up craps creek. If I had a boat, id come bail him out. Well tell him to hang in there and be thankful he has a job.

I agree with you Newwidow. Some aren't ready for it or miss their family but I would think they would have a better chance with a better trainer. The last thing I want to happen is someone like TechieKate going out with him and then getting a ticket, sworn at, whatever.
On to another subject. I got a call for a 2nd interview this afternoon. I am really excited about this because it starts out at about $50,000 a year. That's what I was making before I came to Central and I am really hoping to nail this. We will see. The sweating is already starting.

 

Good luck Bullet! 50k is never a bad idea. We went from 1bad making about 60k a year to this year he is on target for about 24k. Huge difference!

 

That sucks!!

He would have been better of keeping the truck he had!

 

I bet he misses his old truck right now... Maybe they will break down and givem a new one.
