Hey fellow hard working drivers. Can any one tell me about Maverick Little Rock, AR. I was told I with my prior HH experience they would put me to work hauling glass, never done that but when safety is first who cares what's on the wagon. I'm not 2 sure about Maverick never paid the much attention before, must be something about it with 2 wk total training. Can any Maverick drivers give me the good/bad news. Thanks Maddad56

Google "maverick in the rear view" It's a very detailed log of one year hauling glass at Maverick.

Thanks Keendriver, was very interesting and detailed reading. Unless Maverick has purchased a lot of new trailers I dont think much has changed. Hope I can get some current maverick drivers to respond. Hows the yellow iron going things still very slow, had my fill of that also.

There is a couple on here that is in the glass division. Dolly lama and dragger. They was current when I quit a few months ago.

I hauled glass for Schneider Specialized (2 years)...which was purchased my Maverick and became Maverick Specialized, but by the time Maverick bought it I had moved on to the heavy haul fleet.
My Dad and uncle hauled nothing but glass for a number of years (Metler Hauling & Rigging).
I know a little bit about it...Their flatbeds are pretty ragged out, some of the newer step deck glass trailers are pretty neat, the double drop trailers (Schneider called them DD's...not sure what Maverick calls them) are the very best glass hauling trailers I've ever used, they are very similar to the old "sling pack" trailers designed by Metler, only lighter because they are aluminum (mostly).
Hauling glass is a lot of work...more work than anything else I've ever done, but I liked it while I was doing it. Just got bored with it I guess.
I'm not sure what to tell you so I'll just let you ask questions...I'm on a 34 restart so I have plenty of time to answer them. -
Ridgerunner 665 thanks, are you saying Maverick has a heavy haul div, I was not aware of that or you running for someone else? Looks like tarping is the biggest down fall doing it on every load, I do know how long it should take to load/unload Im used to about 2 hrs normal HH load plus tarping if needed. I dont know if loads are preloaded or if its all up to me when I show up, its getting interesting.

They do have a small fleet of what is called "heavy haulers" (probably less than 15 trucks at this time)...but they are not really heavy haulers as in RGN's and stuff. They haul heavy equipment and even oversize but only stuff they can haul with a step deck. You don't get hired on in that division though...you get recruited from within, at least thats how it happened with me. I just happened to be unloading at the same place as one of them and he liked the way I did things and passed the word to Chuck (Chuck was the operations manager for heavy haul at the time), Chuck called me and offered me the job...I took it without a 2nd thought.
Glass...Some are preloads, some are not. 2 hours...in your dreams
, not a load of glass. But they do pay you for loading it, which adds up quick (not sure what the pay is at this time)
ETA: I left Maverick for 2 years...only been back about 2 months (maybe less...lost track) -
I don't know nothing about Mavericks glass business... What I do know is that I hauled 1 load of glass in my whole time of flatbedding. I loaded in Owattona, MN going to Austin, TX. It took nearly 13 hours for them to load me. And then figuring out how to secure & tarp it was another couple hours. I swear all the way down to Austin just knowing that all that glass was going to be busted up when I got there... Not because of the way I drive... But because I was running I-35 most of the way. And everyone knows that I-35 would be smoother if it was gravel. Got their Sunday night... Untarped Monday morning & was pleasantly surprised that not 1 sheet of glass broke.

Viracon...been there MANY times, they usually load pretty fast up there. (compared to other glass places)
I'm guessing your load was in wooden cases wasn't it....you are not responsible if "crated glass" breaks because they packaged it, if it had broke it would have been on Viracon, not you...but its hard to mess up with the crates. -
Yeah it was crated. And not one crate had the same dimensions. That is why I think it took them that long to load me... Trying to figure out how to load all these crate on my skateboard... and make them fit.
