Got points so I figure it's time. Would either the Road King 56 or the Astatic be a good choice as far as a noise cancelling mic? Love's has a $20 off special on the Road King which brings it in line with the Astatic.

The SRA 198 is the better mic but they dont sell it at Loves, of the two mic's you have to choose from the overall consensus is that the new Roadking is not even close in performance to the older version I would buy the 636.

Some say that the newer 636 is not the same performing mic as the older ones but I gave a radio check to a driver that had a new stock Cobra 29 and new 636 mic and it sounded pretty darn good, clear as a bell, good audio.

The 636 is a bit tinny to me and the rk was opposite..
Guess it depends on the radio to some point..

Another factor to consider, may be minor to most, is comfort, do you want to key mic with your thumb( RK 56) or would rather use forefinger and index finger, I played alot of athletics in my younger days ( baseball catcher) and my hands at age 61 are not what they used to be, and I prefer the design of the 636 so I dont have to use my thumb, as I said, sounds minor but to me its something I consider.

Agree Craig, it depends on the radio, on most Galaxys that I have owned ( 45mp,99v2) the 636 sounds awesome but from my experience those radios if tuned correctly have great audio and most mic's match up good with them.

What's the difference between the 636 (manufacturer?) and the Ranger 198. Certainly don't need to waste points if there's something appreciably better out there.
