I'm in Forrest City, AR, just outside of West Memphis. I only have 6 months OTR, and I want more exp. I just don't want it with a major company, and I'd prefer local or regional work. I'm also interested in learning heavy haul, but have no luck finding anyone to help in getting the training or the experience. If you can either help, or know someone that can help, I would greatly appreciate it.
Also, I'm looking to drive a company truck, but will consider either leasing or purchasing my own rig if the opportunity is right.
I can provide references from running team to vouch for skills and safety if needed.

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

There is a flat bed outfit there somewhere. I have seen their daycabs that say forest city.
-
That would work, if I could find the company. I know Maverick is out here, but I'm not really interested in a big name (though I know Maverick isn't that big, but they're big enough..). Anyone know of any heavy haul companies that train..? Or a way to get training and experience?

6 months experience... Your chances are slim to none if your wanting to avoid going the big company route. The companies who hire for local work usually look for individuals who have many years of experience, most OTR with a awesome MVR. Heavy haul carriers look mainly for the same criteria as the local companies... Years of experience & Good MVR.
If it was I looking to hire someone to put in my truck.... I'd overlook you with 6 months experience & put someone who has years of experience in my truck. Just to much of a risk...
My suggestion... Go to the big company... Get a couple years experience... Then look again. Possibly then you'll be able to find a local driving gig because with any hope the economy will be rebounding by then. Right now there are thousands of out of work truck drivers trying to get that same job your wanting... Most of the time experience is the deciding factor whether to hire or not. -
I may be wrong...but I think Hunt Transportation used to take new guys, but since the industry has slowed down they may not.
They haul a lot of oversize loads (not heavy haul)...crawl before you walk, that will get 1 step closer to heavy haul though.
You may as well face it and go with a bigger company...your odds of getting hired will increase dramatically that way. -
I was with maverick when I used to run thru there all the time. That is when I seen the daycabs. You won't find a better co than maverick in that area.

Hunt Transportation? Are you referring to the Hunt Transportation that is owned by Crete?
If so, Hunt is strictly O/O -
They didn't used to be that way...because I spoke to them one time about maybe driving for them.
-
Look at C. Bean Transport, Vans/flats. Not sure where they're out of, I think Ar or Tn. A smaller outfit.
-
I just looked at Hunt's side of Crete's website. They do in fact mention stuff about company drivers. I guess I was wrong... I know at one time they were strictly O/O.
