It would all depend what features you are looking for in a radio. The 66v2 is AM only and compact size ( same as cobra 29), the 86v is AM and SSB and compact size, and the 99v2 is all mode with AM,FM,and SSB and is a full chasis radio. If you primarily are going to use it on AM only, the 66v2 would be a good choice. I own the 99v2 and primarily used it in my personal vehicle and used both AM and SSB. All three radios are dual final ( mosfets) and have a high carrier of 10 - 12 watts and pep to 40 - 48 watts on AM ,and my 99v2 has really good audio and great receive, on SSB it is good but not nearly as good as my BC 980 or President Mckinley, remember too that these are export/ten meter radios and you will have to convert one of the bands to 11 meter. Looking at the circuit board there seems to be mostly plastic tuning pots compared to a General Lee ( one of my favorites) that uses better metal tuning pots, if I had to select a radio that was only going to be used for AM the General Lee would be the one, hope this helps.
