Ok I know Werner has a bad rap but with the school I`m going to it`s one of like 5 companies I HAVE to go to. I`m a student at a driving school and I have to do an externship at a company and I`m leaning towards TMC but by the time I get out it will be almost winter and flatbed`s run light in the winter. Plus I have a pet I want to take with me and maybe friends every so often. So I want to hear a few upsides that Werner has. Please....no negative remarks...just positive, I`ve been researching for awhile and all I`ve read is how they suck and they treat drivers like crap. But I`m a new driver and need to get atleast a year somewhere and I also want miles.

    bambam Thanks this.

You`re not getting the point....I only have a few companies to choose from and they`re one. Other wise I don`t get the certification from the school.

I havent had any major problems with werner. I went to them because I was 21 when I got my cdl and didnt have a huge number of choices. You just have to accept that you are at a large company....... you will wait on hold when u call after hours and sometimes the people u get wont be very helpful and not care. I have been getting plently of miles tho... always running out of the 70 hours every week easily. I usually get about 6k miles for the 2 weeks or so I am out.

It is not a company that I am going to spend 20 years working for tho..... I have been looking at some local jobs but a lot want 2 years exp so I may be with werner for that long.

Large companies get mixed reviews. I am in the new team Z program in which Werner teams 2 new qualified drivers that have completed 300 plus hours of training. We drive 48 states. If you have a pet and go with Werner, you may avoid being forced into going teams after your 300 hours plus training if you talk your SDM (your student developer manager) in letting you go solo because you have a pet. The economy is changing and so are the Werner policies. Frieght has picked up tremendously for me lately. My experience with dispatch has been vey positive. Still about 1 out of 10 calls I get someone that is rude and becomes a pain in the butt with the lack of common sense they have. As for my 70 HR clock, I ran it down below 10 hours only once as a qualified driver. I gotten that layover pay at least 3 times. Lastly, you have 5 companies to choose from. When I got done with school, I had only one which was Werner.

I never noticed flat beds being slow in winter...more difficult, yes...but they are still moving.

Your the one not getting the point. Your in a school that has you under the thumb on selection. The odds are already stacked against you. Only asking for positive feed back from mostly negative co's after replying you have read the negative and only want to hear positive is why I told you to look at positive co's. The hear no evil, see no evil, only works if you are an ostrich
with your head in the sand.

werner is like any other trucking co. I looked into them when i 1st got my cdl. They were similar to the others I considered, but I went a different route. What I have learned is all trucking companies have there faults. I didn't choose werner because of the paperless logs. I didn't want the qualcom to be tell on me. It turns out my company can get the same info from qualcom. My advise to any new driver is take a job you can learn with and get a few years under your belt. Stick with it and trust your judgment over the cb advise. Most drivers mean well, but the few devient drivers out hear will make life hell for the rest of us. Once you get a few years experience and keep your cdl clean, you can shop for a different company if you so choose.

I forgot to mention, Werner is a great company if you do not have a home or have to go home. You can stay on the truck as long as you want unless it is getting repaired. In that case they have spare trucks you can sleep in.
