Central Refrigerated Truck Stop

I don't think it's bad luck, just a bump in the road. You wouldn't know the good times if you didn't have a few bad times. No luck on selling the motorcycle. Had 3 people stop over and they all wanted the R6 not the R6S. That being said, I went on a 2 1/2 hour ride last night and put more miles on it. Still for sale but now it has just a few more miles on it.
Won't tell them that I was over the century mark in speed more than a few times last night.

 

All installed and tested. The 700watt Microwave almost pulls 1k watts
So, I am glad I didn't get the 1100watt one I had my eyes on. Would of killed my inverter.

 

Ours is 3000 or maybe 3500, I can't remember lol.

They're good to have I run a coffee maker, crock pot, Sandwich Maker, Microwave and toaster oven in the truck to cut down on spending money at the over priced Truck stops.

 

I agree with you Jess-Juju. I wish JR would have been more receptive to the idea of preparing food rather than eating at the truck stop. It isn't just about saving the money, though for sure it is expensive and over priced. But Like I said earlier, it all starts to look, taste, and smell the same. It might have been different if the food tasted home made, but it all tasted prefab. I got to the point where I'd rather just go to the fridge section and get a tuna sandwich. Maybe, before the next time I go on the road with him, you can talk him into letting me cook for us instead of eating at the truck stops...lol. What makes it less understandable is that he HAS a big capacity inverter in his that he got to use to power his playstation 3. Love the idea of a crock pot. Bet you made some really tastey meals that surely totally outtasted anything a truck stop offers. OH, and fresh coffee...that would have been heaven.

 

ok, so here are the options. you all have inverters. given the policies on idle time these days. i don't understand why no one buys a space heater for winter and a small a/c or swamp cooler in summer. 2000 watt inverter is more then enough to power those boys. and you have more then enough battery power that the truck won't have to idle one bit except for maybe a startup every so often to charge up the truck batteries. if you happen to be sitting for days at a time. and you got plenty of power for crock pot meals. heaters and a/c's can be had for less then one ben franklin. cheaper then having fuel expense deducted from your pay becuase you went over your idle time.

when i first got started driving, a portable generator was the thing to have. i c 3k watt generators for $400. at harborfrieght. if you happen to have one in your state. california approved too.

then there's the apu. for a pretty penny. looks to me like it does the same thing as the portable generator. and i'm guessn it can provide heat also. but no a/c.

advantages and disadvantages please. i'm weighing down all the options.
i'm planning on packing some sort of fridge somehow. hopefully. and a one burner propane stove. perfect for those boyardee meals in a can. batchelor style cooking without the dishes. HEHEHE

and how come no one packs a gorge foreman around??? he cooks a mean steak or burger.

 

Does the 12V a/c units that globaltrucker sell work? Also could you put dry ice rather than regular ice in their?

Dry ice is not real practical. It is way to cold, it clumps together very easily, and it just evaporates. Not to mention its not sold at very many places. I worked at a place that we used and made alot of it. It is a little dangerous, but does make a good 2 liter bomb!

 

in theory yes, it works much like a swamp cooler. but don't expect the ice to last very long. you'll be refreshing the ice quite a bit. if your out somewhere with no access to a store it won't do you any good. and it doesn't really cool down that big of an area. you can buy a 12v fan for 10 bucks at wally world. fill a cooler with ice and have the fan blow right into the ice. the air coming out will be cool. it's the same effect as the globaltrucker cooler but cheaper. and blows much more then 100 cfm of aire. but it's not enough to cool down inside the cab. too big an area. swamp coolers seem to be more effective and ice lasts longer. swamp coolers and a/c units come as small as 18 inches wide. can be found at any sears or home depot or what not. couple of years ago they were just under 100 dollars.

 

would a small ac unit that you mentioned be mounted inside or would it have to be mounted outside?
