Please add some details, $1.15 less of what?

What would you be working with on the dock?

Why would you be on call?

I'm a single dad and need to be home everyday. I eventually want to do OTR but not until they're out of school(I have 3 in high school now). Ive found that there are a number of OTR companies that I could get a job with now with no experience so I'm not too worried about the jump from local to OTR.

It starts at $18.85/hr. They do deliveries to grocery stores and gas stations(ownwd by the grocery store. I am asking about the on call thing at the interview tomorrow. Aftwr the training I will only be driving and unloading at the destination. It will be probably 6-12 months before I would be considered a "full time" employee, even though I'll be working 40-50hrs prior to that. Once im "full time" ill get %80 of top pay which I believe is $25 right now.

It's the pay that will get you. Jumping to otr isn't a problem but jumping to otr for a good company might be a problem. It's kind of a dent to the pride to go from 80k/yr to 24k/yr pulling for a mega.... I'll pass. Those are the companies that will jump all over hiring you. @Tx Countryboy has been around the block a few times and is dead on with that one.

Thats a young mans game. Food service.

Heft a 130 pound box of seafood and see you got 6 more stops of it to go... Especially now that you got a hold of it, you have to climb down from up there. Put it down on the floor, get out safely and then put it on your shoulder. Gently.

In high theft spots I would be padlocking every box I walked to the back door of that eating place. aggravating. But not anywhere near as much as say 3000 dollar deduction on your salary with maybe 6 weeks to go before you get any pay at all after the theives clean you out. That big MBM announcing seafood draws em like flies to honey in the middle of Jersey of all godforsaken places. Ive used my thumper a couple of times to apply knots already. As Dear Sgt Hulka once said, Im getting too old for that *&^%

Until that particular account I have not had TOO much trouble there or elsewhere across my lifetime.

    Save your dollar.

If they are paying you... 4 eggs, save three. With each load. You get the picture.

    Why?

You only get one spine. When that's gone thats it and your ability to work and save that kind of payroll is limited.

Saving is really hard to do. And one way to do it is to keep what you need, discard the rest and stop buying. If my skillet handle broke and I cannot fix it then I'll go out and get a skillet. But not before trying out a visegrip for a handle first. Im such a tightwad because I have to be.
