You aren't "relieved from all duties" when you do your 30. I've never followed that rule. Log your time putting out your cones as on duty. When roadside gets there log any time interacting with them as on duty. Waiting for them to show up? Climb in the sleeper and get a nap or get out of the truck and walk for exercise. Log line 1 or 2 as appropriate.

So I read through this thread and as a soon-to-be new driver I understand that "break down time" should be logged as on duty but I have a question. Suppose the breakdown comes when you're already 10 hours or so into your 14 hr clock and you have to wait 6 hrs for road side repair to show up? Wouldn't that put you significantly over 14 hrs? Also what happens once road side repair gets you up and running? I'm assuming your only choice is to get to a safe have asap but you're still driving way past your clock just to look for suitable parking. Is this a violation or how should it be handled???

If you break down and you are almost out of hours you request a tow. That happened to me. I had to shut down on the shoulder for a regen. By the time it was over I was going to be out of hours. I sent a message to roadside breakdown and they had me towed to a terminal.
