Chalk Mountain Midland

One of my best friends drives for them out of the Kermit yard. He's making good money, but he has a much higher tolerance for BS than most people.

One thing to keep in mind about frac sand is that it is boom or bust. That, and the cost of living in the Midland area is absolutely outrageous - if you can even find a place to live.

If I were going to haul sand, Chalk is who I would work for. Their contract with a major energy producer is what keeps them moving when others have slowed down.

Chalk Mtn only has one customer for sand, EOG(Enron Oil And Gas). They aren't bad but they aren't anything to write home about. The sand pushers are pretty good group. I liked working with them, but the drivers were so so. One thing about getting paid by the hour, when things get slow you won't get any hours so it really doesn't matter. It's no different than "not getting miles" or "not getting a load". Either way you sit there unpaid.

When it's busy you may have a six day schedule, when it's slow your down to four or five day schedule. The best place to get current info is just ask a few of their drivers. I've been to several of their yards around Texas and there was always a group standing around talking. In the oilfield there is one thing common to nearly all drivers, they like to talk.
