Better bet from their colonial age is ground settling. Pretty sure fill and compaction techniques from that era would be considered lacking by current standards.WesternPlains, Rocks and lovesthedrive Thank this. -

Every time I hear it I remember when I took a ride with a trucker in Brasil in nineteen eighty something... he had a cassette tape of ABBA.. he was a fan of them... I loved the music... loved the ride... the road.... those were GREAT TIMES... I was only a young girl....WesternPlains, Dave_in_AZ, FlaSwampRat and 2 others Thank this. -
@Rocks
One of the plans for the property is to build an Accessory Dwelling Unit. Old terms for them is "In-Law Quarters" or "Caretaker's House/Cabin". A small place good for no more than 2 people.
At first, we would be planning to rent it to put money into the retirement fund. But it would also be available in the future for a nurse or other caregiver and would be part of their pay.RidgeRunner731, WesternPlains, FlaSwampRat and 2 others Thank this. -
Yup we should have put up more south facing windows. The only one with a table. Goober is on the right with the softer fur.

Yeah.. the problem is that Brazilians don't take care of the nature, the environment, the constructions, or anything... the old buildings were strong enough to survive till now... but with poor or no maintenance at all, they are decaying... eroding.. and eventually will collapse..
As it has been happening all over the country... they show on TV buildings collapsing because of lack of maintenance.... it's pretty sad and a SHAME...
And nowadays, they construct stuff that doesn't last long and/or collapses before it's finished.... Buildings, bridges...
No only that... I missed taking a picture of the flooding on the street when I was there and it rained a lot all day long... vehicles had to avoid some streets because of the high water.. on other cities in other states where the rain was very intense, there were vehicles abandoned on the street... they showed on TV... it happens everywhere... Because the sewage system, and the drainage system are obstructed, clogged up... very poor and no maintenance is causing flooding every time it rains in the cities... it happens from northeast to southeast... all big old cities....WesternPlains, x1Heavy, Dave_in_AZ and 2 others Thank this. -
Hey... what is froggy doing up there...? I thought he was down here...?
WesternPlains, Dave_in_AZ, FlaSwampRat and 1 other person Thank this.
