Only way they can get away with this is if the truck has a reconstructed title for whatever reason and I'm thinking that is a state specific thing. May catch up with them eventually or maybe not.

I think that the responsibility is really not on the shop that did it.

They sell them with no paperwork. So if there is a problem it's on the owner not the shop.

Can you prove that the shop did it? No, you have no proof. But you have proof that you are the owner and that engine is in the truck you own.

Even if you did have proof, you are the one operating an illegal truck. Eventually the shop might have a problem, but most likely and most definitely the owner will have a problem if they get stopped by the wrong cop.

DOT cops routinely check the VIN numbers of trucks. They know the difference between a glider and a factory truck.

Wrong guy, wrong day, you could be out of business.

Way too much risk over something like that.

Take one in a shop to be worked on & they will know.

Some of you guys assume that the dot doesn't know what they are looking at, they do but in many cases they are not focused on emissions.

There are a number of states that test emissions and will examine a truck and will issue tickets. Michigan is one that doesn't care.

Exactly. The engine mfg should be able to reprint the stickers based off the ESN.

My glider has a 12.7 and when Detroit ran the number from the engine it came up as a 2004 egr engine? Even tho the factory build sheet has it as a factory installed rolling glider no rear ends or Trans installed. Did Detroit just use any block they had when building the engines?

@pushbroom I believe mentioned Cat was building 6NZ remans with SDP blocks? Don't see why Detroit couldn't do something similar?

You can print the info off from the Detroit website with the engine serial number.

On another note, what sticker are people asking about. I have a Fitz glider and there's no sticker saying it's eld exempt. I just have the print out from Detroit showing what year the engine was built.

    manisa Thanks this.
