Hey all I was wondering if anyone had any experiences or opinions on CDL recruiting agencies. I recently obtained my CDL and actually have a pretty strong lead on Superior Carriers. However, in case something falls through for some reason, I have been poking around and seeing what else is out there. I'm also trying to look into some options for a friend that has recently gotten his CDL as well, but it was through his employer, so he doesn't have any experience nor a certificate of completion from a school (he's a crane operator considering going into trucking).

I happened to be looking around on Craigslist and came across Right Turn Recruiting. I did a search on here and saw it was suggested by the great @Chinatown, but didn't see any responses with any good or bad remarks, so I figured I'd ask for some. Thanks!

Chinatown will get to you at some point he rules when it comes to helping.

Your friend the Crane man should comeout here with his own TTR account. I am very sure depending on how much crane this man has in his wallet Employers will kill for his soul. Ive actually done small cranes a few times but you will NOT catch me near anything that requires a computer or excessive manpower etc. (If you had a old utility company crane truck on your tractor, a seat near the top and the levers for the legs and so forth. Load is on the trailer behind you. Rotate and get each pallet off, set it down.

Once you are empty, stow the crane, sign the bills. Hunt for new leakes and take off when satisfied that everything is stowed. Not a minute before.

Craigs list has certain risks. I will not get into all that now. Sites like Monster etc would something to look into.

from my past observations and experiences, recruiting agencies are hooked up with a national or local network of many (if not all) of the mega-carriers.

they get paid a "head hunters fee", for sending you to them.

you would be better off applying at say a temp agency, and have them keep your name on file, (this is what i had done), so that you can pick up quick local work on either your days off, vacations, lay-off's, etc.

Trillium Staffing has been posted on here a few times and drivers saying they're very satisfied with that agency.
    Is your friend in Louisiana?

that's the difference..trillium is a temp to hire agency, like a few that i had signed up with.

but recruiting companies by and large are nothing more than head hunters, that get a fee for every body they refer one to go to.

and those companies are "usually" found in truckers magazines or e-mailings, or snail mailings.

like "fill out our application, and we find you a job".....

I've already told him about this site and to make a post here. He's pretty busy atm, however, so I thought I'd go ahead and lump him in with me on this thread since his situation is similar to mine. He's got a little over a year experience with cranes. Around 6 months on the union extras board doing turnarounds in the beginning, and the rest at his current job.

He's about 20 miles from me, so any suggestion you may have for me he can also follow. The only difference between us is I have a school completion certificate and he was trained on the job.

I'll look into Trillium for both of us. Thanks to you and to Chinatown for the suggestion.

Some companies in the northwest use
TLC Companies that does the driver hiring process & payroll etc for the company. You drive for the carrier but TLC pays you. Supposed to relieve the carrier office staff from some duties to use them elsewhere. They call it professional driver staffing service

Some of my old coworkers started a recruiting company for truckers. To me they don’t do anything google can’t do. The company they are getting you hired on with pays them a good amount and your chance of get getting a sign on or any type of new hire bonus goes down because it’s going to them. It’s basically a referral or affiliate program taking advantage of lazy truckers.

Focus on the company to work for. You are new so you don't trust your own opinion. EVERY company wants more drivers. The recruiters get paid to get any ole person hired, or any person that stays employed X days. They don't care about what you care about, just completing the placement. IMO

They are a double edged sword. Headhunters can usually get a new driver placed, but they are going to steer you towards companies that pay them the most, not necessarily you. Your best bet is to talk to older drivers that can refer you to companies that will hire trainees and not take advantage of them. Personally I would recommend ATS out of St. Cloud Mn. They have a good reputation for fairness, and the last I heard, they will even reimburse the cost of your school.
