I've heard a lot of people say that, and things like it... And while I think that's pretty big, I don't think it's the biggest problem. Too many parents don't follow through. "Don't do that!" they tell the kid, and then they turn around, and the kid does it anyway... but they don't see it, and think they are doing a wonderful job of parenting. When the kid is used to that, beatings don't matter...
The comment earlier about running away from the old man, coming down the stairs with the belt... I don't understand that. If I had tried to run from my old man when he was coming after me with the belt, it would have been a big mistake. Same with my kids running from me. If you know its coming, you accept it, deal with it, and its done. If you try to run, you get twice the beating. After the pain of the beating has gone down... you get a second one to remind you, that running wasn't in your best interest.Al. Roper, Slowpoke KW, blairandgretchen and 18 others Thank this. -
Leaving Waldo, Arkansas and I've got my windows down. I start hearing an air leak in the dash and hope its just the leveling valve adjusting then I notice pressure dropping. Two lane highway, this is awesome.
Though the trailer brakes protested, I got her to a safe spot and find that the spring at the bottom of my glad hand had rubbed a hole in the line. Grab my tools, send the breakdown message just in case, and start disassembly and got the bad section cut out..
I got the crimp style ferrule loose but it didn't want to crimp back on and started snapping off. Breakddown says the closest people are 40 miles, and I know that really means 2 hours. I said let me call you back.
I thumb through my @OLDSKOOLERnWV roadside repair guide and go to chapter 2 titled "Its Friday Worm Gear Clamp The Mfer". Dig thru the trusty toolbox and find one small WG clamp.
We're head back east looking for the weekend. Its hard to keep a good jerry rigger down.1951 ford, Al. Roper, Slowpoke KW and 30 others Thank this. -

He's healing ok but looks like he's going to be out of trucking permanently. It was his dad's Jeep that they were riding in that got wrecked.
He's trying to land a job in sales. Got some good prospects but hadn't decided on one when I talked with him last week.
His cornfield Cadillac is still parked at our customers yard in Midland.1951 ford, Al. Roper, Slowpoke KW and 28 others Thank this. -
