Just finished my last skills test. Everything should be good. I think tomorrow is more HR stuff, but this week has been great. The CDTs are not only world class drivers, but they’re amazing at explaining everything to us, and giving sound advice. Now that I have less stress, maybe I’ll step up the game on my squiggly in the morning.

Is Ricky one of the CDTs? I forget what DC he’s from, somewhere down south. You’d know him if he’s out there...awesome guy.

    And congrats....it’s a great job.

    richardc and truckdriver31 Thank this.

Thank you. Yes. He’s here, and you’re right. He’s a great guy. Outstanding personality. Hopefully Thursday goes fast. They weren’t clear exactly what to expect, but I guess time will tell.

    truckdriver31 and T.Rucker Thank this.

Did you leave your previous employer before attending the orientation or did you just take some vacation time off and turning your noticed in when you get back.

    richardc and truckdriver31 Thank this.

I turned in my notice, but I was transparent with them. I let them know that I wasn’t guaranteed a position with Walmart, but that I couldn’t skip the opportunity. They told me that they understood, and that they’d let me cancel my two week notice, and come back any time. Today, I got my hat, signed the banner, and will officially be a driver for Walmart Transportation. I’m thankful for the posts on this thread, and the other Walmart threads. Very useful info here.

Thank you. It’s been a great week. I’d imagine I’d have a different mindset if I were in the group that didn’t make it. 46 people in our group. I believe 31 made it.

    truckdriver31 Thanks this.

What would you consider the reason the other driver`s didn`t make it?

    richardc and truckdriver31 Thank this.

I would guess maneuvers, Pretrip, and attitude would play a factor in not making the cut.

I’d guess most of it was the backing skills. It’s a tight maneuver, but not impossible. Some were bad at shifting. Mainly because most of the industry is in automatic trucks, and haven’t shifted a 10 speed in years. So for anyone looking to come to Walmart, I’d brush up on shifting.
They did tell us that over the next 5 years or so, Walmart is moving to automatic trucks, but you still can’t have the automatic restriction on your CDL. They also told us that right now, each DC has certain trucks for smokers, and other trucks for non smokers, but as new trucks come in, they’re all supposed to be non smoking. So smokers may want to keep that in mind.

CurtH, Exit310 and truckdriver31 Thank this.
