I also went to ft wayne. I came in the same way, give them 110% and get your year in, and then your options really open up. I'll warn you ahead of time that the hotel in ft wayne is a little scary, kinda run down and not the best living conditions, but its ok just to get by while your going to school. the school it self is also a bit of a joke, they could tighten the screws up alittle bit with the whole training dep, im prior military though so im a tougher judge then most i guess, but like you said just get through it. they say its three weeks but i grad in two weeks and one day. the instructors will send you over to take your cdl test once they feel your ready. your there to learn and pass so dont screw off with the rest of the knuckle heads in your class and focus on the training and graduating and you'll be back home in no time.

once your home you'll wait for a trainer to come by and pick you up and you normally go out for 4weeks with him and do on-the-job training, you'll learn how to talk back and forth with dispatch, to get loads, how to deal with shippers/recievers, truck maintaince, all the ins and outs. after the 4 weeks you'll become a first seat driver and get your own truck which is very sweet! so stick it out cuz it will get better, i promise.

some other things i forgot to mention about PAM, they pay for a truck wash at any blue beacon once a month and they have an account so it doesnt even cost you out of pocket to keep your rig looking nice. they have ez pass in all the trucks so no waiting in toll lines and no out of pocket money needed for those tolls. if you do go through a state were ez pass is not taken just transflo the reciept with the rest of your paper work and they will pay it. they also pay all scale tickets, 9 dollars a pop for these guys, but you do have to pay up front and then they'll reinburse you but you gotta transflo the actuall weight ticket, not the reciept from the ticket, i learned the hard way on that.

if your truck breaks down and you cant sleep in it cuz its being worked on or in a shop they pay you 60 dollars a night for a hotel, you dont have to use it on a hotel if you dont want its up to you. also if your truck is down they pay 40 bucks evey 24hrs its down. so if you play your cards right you can get 100 dollars a day.

well best of luck to all who decide to go this route, my best advice is not to quit before your year is up cuz the contract you sign will come back to haunt you. you'll owe the entire cost of the school, somewhere around 6000-6500 at 18% intrest due in full at once, so stick it out.

ok long enough, take care and God bless

I have heard of drivers with it, but when I went to school, (May 09) we had a guy fail the physical because he had it. Not to be a downer, but I would check the internet for the physical requirements first. if that doesnt work, your question would best be answered by the company itself.

Just got my CDL in late Sept. It looks like PAM is one of the better "starter companies" out there. I don't believe a word that comes out of any recruiter's mouth....why should I. I do have a few questions though.
After I ship out to complete their 2 day orentation, how soon until I can get back home for a day or 2. I really need to make it back for the day after Thanksgiving.

    How is the equipment?
How is home time....do they bit*h?
Do they treat you like a human being?
Since I can't afford a $600 gps, what motor carrier maps should I buy?
Looks like trying to keep log books perfect every day seems VERY HARD.
I've been in the trucking field for 12 years now as a trl. mech. Just looking for a few tips & any useful info.

I haven't worked for 'em, but I've yet to see anything really negative about them.

I drove for years with nothing more than the ol' Rand McNally Motor Carriers atlas, but you can team that up with a $100 Magellan if you're really looking for a tech fix. My primary GPS setup is a little Asus Netbook with MS Streets and Trips.

Keeping log book accurately is refreshingly simple compared to going back and trying to invent time. Sometimes you'll still be able to show a little... creativity, but ya have to watch out for stuff that can be checked, like fuel stops and QC communications.
