So long story short, I got my CDL back in 2016, I got out of the trucking industry 2018. A few months later I went to add a motorcycle endorsement to my license and they wanted me to redo all the test so I said lets just downgrade and take only motorcycle test. Anyhow I know need a CDL again and I’m wondering if I can just reinstate or do I have to take permit and behind the wheel again?........sorry wasn’t that short
Ca CDL reinstatement

Oh, you downgraded; that's different.
What's your plan; hit the road or local?Last edited: Nov 16, 2019
FlaSwampRat and Tx Countryboy Thank this. -
Call the DMV. In CO you can downgrade and reinstate within a year as long as you file a new medical card.

I got back into construction and I’m driving a freightliner step van with a different variety of trailers all over the 10k pound limit. I’m going in to dmv on Monday, hoping I can sweet talk them but if not ill just retest again

I honestly can't say anything for California but I did the same thing and downgraded because"I'm done driving" but then got the itch to go out again and I had to start over with a permit and retest. This was in Florida so maybe it's different there but similar situation.
Tx Countryboy Thanks this. -

In California if you downgraded your license you have to start over from scratch to get your CDL back
