I'm a new Class A graduate and one of the companies I'm seriously considering is Comcar/CT. For now I would start on the flatbed division which is fine with me to start. I live in Florida and their orientation is in Georgia. They get you home every weekend they say which would be good for me. I trained on a 10 speed in school and would like to get proficient one day, but CT told me that they have all automatics as of now. They run solo after your training which I like. It's not a major carrier yet it's not that small either. Just wondering if anyone knows this company and if you would recommend it.

They have been around for a long time. You could work for a lot worst go for it and don’t look back. Get your experience by then you’ll know who are the better companies to work for.

Orientation runs from Tuesdays to Thursdays. Typically running from 7 am to 4:30 pm. A lot of power point, videos, and your run of the mill orientation speeches. On your first day you will have a drug test, do not even try to cheat it..you can't. It's a piss test, not hair follicle. The first day also has a medical examination if you do not have a medical card and a physical test. The physical test will have you lifting a container twice about chest high that will have weight added incrementally. You will climb on top of a flatbed and your vitals will be taken. If someone has a thick neck or sleep apnea they have to take a special test. 2nd day has a driving test just to see if you can get out of the facility and drive a bit.
After orientation you will go into advanced training from Friday to Wednesday. 8 am to 3 pm. You will be tested on your backing, straight back, off sets, alley dock, coupling/uncoupling, and a serpentine course. If you get too many marks than you will get sent home. It's like CDL school, but with better teachers. These guys will answer any question you have and work with you one on one. They will also teach you how to tarp loads, the different types of folds, I certainly learned a lot.
If you do not travel in your own vehicle you will than travel by Greyhound. You will have a roommate unless your roommate doesn't show or leaves early. Breakfast is at the hotel. They provide lunch and supper is to your own discretion. They treated us well. They were respectful and worked with us. You're home on weekends, unless you want to work more. Overall it was good. On our last day though there was a guy that just quit, I think he just didn't like driving, but he left with unkindly words for the company. He didn't want to drive in the snow, that was his choice because that cut into his miles and money. For a first company this seems like a good choice. They are getting new trucks and seem to work with you. They are also desperate for drivers, I heard they will give their drivers a pay raise next year.
After Orientation and advanced training you will spend 3 to 4 weeks with a trainer before getting your own truck.

I already have a dot physical with 2 years. Will they measure my neck size anyway or make me test for sleep apnea?
