Well I am happy i am still getting to live my dream. I just hope no other obstacles come my way or else I will reevaluate this. My parents can only do so much, then it is my decision to follow through or modify them. We shall see. Things happen for a reason and i have learned to accept that and deal with life that way. Now, if only some hot chick would ask me out (shhh I am not fully loaded like Hugh Hefner).

Jess: Is the load board at Central website only for the Owner/Lease Operators? I was checking it out after I reread your post, but when you click the request button you get 3 names and I'm not sure how to proceed from there. Would it be better to just write it down and have him call Emma? Although he told Emma he needed to keep moving & she said she couldn't do anything because her instructions came from somebody else.
They have my roomy stuck in the Ky, Tenn, Maryland area and he is sitting up to 20 hours between loads, then the miles are under 160 each way. I've seen a few loads from there to Utah, hoping to request one to get him out of his rut (he had been there since July 9th and has received 3 loads- one had only 3 pallets on it). Even if he could get going to Ohio on longer runs it would be ok. At least if we can get him back this way I can jump onboard and he won't be so bored if he ends up sitting somewhere. I almost caught a plane and flew to him, but neither of us know the area to feel secure enough for that. Also thinking about getting a laptop for him to take for checking e-mail and surfing; can anyone recommend a good one that isn't real costly?
    Thanks.

The load board is for O/O's!

L/O don't get to choose loads of there either, Those loads are for Guys with there own Authority (Independents)......We check at times if we have been sitting for a few hours and mention to our FM that Central has loads in that area on the load board!

He is stuck on the nasty short hop loop!

The only thing he can do is keep communicating with his FM and hope when he has been with Central for a few months the miles improve!

Sorry I can't be more helpful!!

Miles aren't great for anyone this year unless your training students, then your truck has to get 14500 miles for the 28 days and even that isn't great because a Solo driver on E-Logs can run 12800 a month! So trainers are only getting 700 more miles a month with a student!

With the Lap top give Dell a call and see what sales they have or look on eBay, they have reasonable laptops.

They don't. You don't get your hazmat. You get what's necessary to drive the truck, so no double/triple, no tankers, and no hazmat.

The card you get at orientation says they've shown you the hazmat basics, so you're aware of what hazmat is, how to check the bills, and what not to do with it. It does not give you the endorsement to haul hazmat. That's on your license, and you'll have to test, fingerprint, and be subjected to the background check.

you could do what a few other drivers have done. Call safety, and point out that in 100+ degree heat, it's impossible to get a good night's sleep in the truck. And, by sitting in the truck stop, you're not getting rest. By not getting rest, you're more likely to get in an accident, and Central can't really afford any more accidents. See what safety says. I know at least one driver who's gotten the idle charge refunded because of that.

I have looked thru most of the pages in this thread (wow... my eyes hurt now). I just started working with Sarah in recruiting and it looks like I will start training soon! (Maybe even next Monday?)

I feel I have a good, thorough knowledge of the 11/14 hour rule! That has been discussed in length on here and it was definitely something I didn't know. I am going to the DMV tomorrow and picking up a CDL manual and going to start studying.

The list they sent me of things I need doesn't include a truckers road atlas. I'm sure my trainer will have one... and so I probably don't need one... but from what I've read elsewhere it seems like it is a good thing to have along when you go out. what do you think?

Anyway, thanks for all the advice I've seen... and any other little tidbits of, well, anything... would be great!

    Welcome to the Central asylum!

You can pick up a truckers atlas at a truck stop when your out with your trainer!!

JJ gave his current student Larry an old one I had at the house.

    Good luck with the school!:yes2557:
