Slowdown here in my area for sure. Sitting at home today, had to call in this morning to get the news. Really throttling hours a good bit but still managing to get around 50hrs the other 4 days. Work itself is going okay, but they really push that productivity meter to the fullest. One thing I dislike is that with everything being so time sensitive and being pushed to rush, a lot of days I'm working 10+ hrs or more before I actually am allowed to take a break. Occasionally no break at all. Although they still deduct for it. It feels like the powers that be feel as if DOT regulations don't apply to local guys.
Glad to hear you all are still trucking along through the slowdown!

Yesterday, I went to the Orthopedic Surgeon for a 3-week check-up. He said the deep injury has healed and I no longer have to soak it in Epsom Salt and only dress it when I go to work (due to the environment I work in, it's super easy to come in contact with bacteria). Other than that, I won't have to do any wound care.
The injury happened 3 Oct, so it's only been approximately 6 weeks. I'm Blessed for the healing to come so quickly.Matt1924, 4mer trucker, Tx Countryboy and 2 others Thank this. -

@Matt1924 measure you take your 30 min brake, i know sometimes we want to be highspeed and get everything delivered or pick up but customers have to realize that we gotta follow the law. If customer wants its freight to be picked up or delivered they will wait.
@Kstrong86 whats up brother hows the house hunting.
@88 Alpha is work still pretty busy?
I been doing steady on my side of the woods maybe because we are a small terminal and all hands on deck are needed which is a blessing.
@Kstrong86 brother man the thought of doing teams is crossing my mind lately, if I may ask have you gotten used to it yet. how does your day look like when you do teams with your partner i.e taking turns to drive, hygiene and what kind of food do you eat. -
@Texas_hwy_287
Yes sir, hours are still 60+ if I want them. Shoot, I put in 60.5 last week and they called me just as 10 break was up Saturday morning to ask if I wanted to get another 4 hours in Saturday. Due to my wife and I having made plans for the weekend, I politely told them "thanks but no thanks".
This week won't be great due to me having to take yesterday (Monday) off for the doc appointment. I keep trying to get an early appointment so I can still go in at my 1300 time slot and not miss any work, but all of the reasonable appointments fill up pretty quick.
We are a small terminal (total of 6 drivers) and we've had one guy out (he's either on vacation or sick, not sure which) and we had another guy quit, so that has kept the rest of us having to bust our rearends to get it all done.Matt1924 Thanks this. -
Oh yea I’m used to it for sure. I love it actually. Nobody really messes with the teams. It’s like we are made of gold or something lol. What made me go teams was I was linehaul and that’s good but one week I didn’t get any runs and just work the dock. I had to work 12 hour days for five days just to bring home $1,000 and I have a family to support. I’m a single income family at the moment. My wife goes to school full time for her bachelors so I’m the bread maker right now. So that’s why I joined teams. At the team me and partner were the only extra board guys at our terminal. We talked and we both wasn’t getting any runs on linehaul. So we teamed up and haven’t looked back since.
As far as my day I drive out and he drives in. Meaning I start the day and he finishes it off. We don’t switch because that’s how we prefer it. Some teams switch every week or every other week. We like sticking to the same schedule. Switching it will mess up your sleep schedule. So that’s why we don’t do it. Or at least that’s why I don’t do it. Personal hygiene well we are both clean freaks. We get a shower everyday. Every route is different so on our route we can go home every day for at least 4-5 hours sometimes. But I live a little far so I don’t like to go home everyday. But we get a 30 min break everyday by law. So you use it how you see fit. Me I take a shower on my 30. Sometimes it’s 45 minutes sometimes it’s an hour. Just depends. When you do the route long enough you get a feel of your favorite truck stop. So no matter what we always get a shower in a everyday.
As far as food. Well again that depends on you. I have a old timer truck stop that has an amazing diner. It’s called the Oasis off I-10 exit 53 in Robertsdale, AL. Sometimes I eat Subway or just just truckstop food. Sometimes I bring sandwiches from home or prep meals and use the little lunch heater to heat them up. Sometimes just protein shakes. Just depends man. We have a big cooler in our truck. Some trucks have a fridge in it and an inverter as well. Ours just have an inverter but no fridge.
So I hope that kind of sums it up for you man. The work is easy and relaxing. I don’t ever hear from supervisors or bosses unless I’m doing something unsafe which is never. As long as you do your job safely and professionally you will stay under the radar. Our terminal has a lot of guys with seniority of 15 plus years and they are not going anywhere so if I want to keep making the money I’m making teaming is where I’m going to be at for awhile and I’m fine with that. None of them have no interest of teaming. And to put it in more perspective for you there is a guy who transferred from MIA and he has like 27 years with the company but when he transferred he lost his seniority but he is on the extra board. So if he is on extra board where do you think I will be. Lol I’ll stay on teams. LolMatt1924, 88 Alpha and Texas_hwy_287 Thank this. -
