I don’t know what you truck weights, but a 55 ton trailer and A 4 axle tractor will be over 50k empty, 95k on trailer will put you around 150k, most likely need 9 axles to get it legal comfortably. Tennessee won’t give you over 20 on a axle unless you have a very short trailer, so yon may need a Jeep, then you need LCV certificates to use a Jeep.
I don’t know if you have a factory 4 axle or a homemade 4 axle, many just add a axle to a truck and go for it.
Remember it takes iron to haul iron, and screwups can be very expensive.

    Oxbow Thanks this.

With a daycab and the right trailer you can be under 50,000 with 8 axles I know several. He never mentioned hauling 55 ton you did. Tennessee will give you 160,000 on 8 with a close couple quad. So with the right outfit he could definitely scale 55 ton. You don’t have to be “comfortable” just legal.

    Oxbow and cke Thank this.

Actually with 1/3/2/2 he could be 172k but we could go on about this forever. He has no experience and no equipment - so what he could do or should do nobody knows.
All we know is he wants to be able to haul 95k net - even though the machine he list runs in the low to mid 80’s in a lot of cases. We don’t know if he intends to move them around block or across country.

I always get in trouble when I offer advice so I won’t.

...Wouldn't hiring out as a driver for a HH outfit be a better plan for somebody with no experience?
Drive for somebody, learn the business, see what it really takes to make it and then decide if he wants his own?
Of all the kinds of trucking I've seen HH is probably the one with the biggest economic penalties for failure.

With no experience, i would get hired with a company that does hh. Learn the ropes. Different types of loads. Learn how to drive the load. Just dont boom it down and go.

    PPDCT and Oxbow Thank this.
