I think I might know but just wondering why all these ads wanting to purchase MC numbers? Does FMCSA allow this transaction?

Fmcsa says mc #'s are transferable, but not dot #'s.
-
Dots gets transferred with corporations, there’s a way to do it it’s difficult but it’s possible.
not really on the up and up but I’ve seen it done. -

Gee..... This would be good INFO for all those out there wanting to buy one I would think. Might be more to it then meets the eye.

I’m considering reactivating my MC/DOT it is over 20 years old. I operated as sole proprietor and if I go back it will be as a llc and different company name.
According to FMCSA I can use my old MC, but have to get new DOT number.
Didn’t go into details why, but looks like the DOT number is attached to the company name. -
My authority was inactive for 10 years and was told that it will be considered a new venture as far as insurance go even if I keep the same DOT number.
Socal Xpress Thanks this. -
@Billyjack may not work how you think it works. After 2 - 3 you would be considered a new entrant. Regardless if you have an existing MC from 20 years ago. Once insurance has lapse all that goes out the window.
Chicago-05 Thanks this. -
I had my Authority from 2012 to 2016 and thought about reestablishing it in 2018 insurance broker told me I would be a new entrant all over again.
