No information overload yet since Monday was quite uneventful, but I'm sure Tuesday will be much different, I'm sure. We'll see how it goes. I know we will end up with these HUGE grey binders of papers. Should be interesting...

..it clearly states on the online app, 2 questions you have to answer correctly or you will be let go or fired later if they find out, even if you pass their training..

    1. Have you EVER been convicted or arrested for a felony or misdemeanor?

    2. Has your license EVER been suspended or revoked?

..so when they ask EVER you better answer truthfully, I have read many posts here on the forum about people in training that forgot to mention or omitted that they had a suspension, felony, or misdemeanor say 15, 20 yrs ago & then were fired even after they had completed training & were driving for the carrier..

..sorry to bring this up now after you're getting ready to leave for training but do you want to be let go after you get there; if they fire you there you will be responsible for the bus ticket home, not them.. (I may be wrong on this one.. some will, most won't if you're fired..)

..I don't know what the answer was from your recruiter but I hope you got the correct information because the recruiter doesn't have any control over the hiring process.. whoever does these background checks finds a supension on your DMV & your app says 'no' you'll probably be let go, irregardless of what your recruiter told you..

..as far as options for travel, if Central will reimburse the fare equal to the bus ticket & there is only a $40 difference for airfare it's a no-brainer, I'd pay the $40 and take the plane.. I've driven that route several times from Lincoln, NE to Ogden, UT & trust me on this, you have a lot farther to travel & it's by bus; you will wish you would have paid that $40 before you're half-way there!

Yes I did correctly put the right information on the application. The next time I talked to him I even told him that. But yes I did put the suspention on my application. I talked to him today and he looked over my driving record as we was on the phone and said it was clean.
As for the traveling... I don't have the extra $240 to spring for a plane even if I am getting the other $200 back. I'm borrowing as it is just for the money for the permit and to live on while I'm there or believe me I would be flying there. And yes, I got more info from him today that I had to fax back and it states on there that if I fail I pay for my ride home. But hey drive-a-mac, thanks for the concern and drive safe!!

6pak, I did tell everyone who would listen. I just have a feeling that nothing was done and tomorrow he will be picking up another student. I know there are alot of good trainers and good people at Central and there are some that are not so good. You take the good with the bad. That is why I said if you don't think you are learning anything from your trainer, please call the training dept.(Ron Johnson to be exact). I should have done the same thing but I didn't. My mistake and I don't want anyone to repeat it if they don't have to.

Relating to the posts above about being truthful, how can you ensure that the people responsible for hiring know all these things up front? The recruiter doesn't have any say, so should one call a particular person/department before you spend the effort to make it to their driving school?

It just seems like going that far to be told you won't be hired is a huge waste of everyone's time and money.

These particulars, hiring conditions, really worry me. I've been vetted for a public trust position and also had my background checked when I joined the Army. But I never worried about it. This one worries me. What if they find something I forgot about or slipped, or hell they find my eyesight is off just a bit or something or my heart rate goes over something on their chart?

Hell they should be happy anyone shows up from the stories I read on here. It should be like the modern US Army. Are you breathing? Have you ever killed someone? Did he deserve it? You're hired!

Well panda YOU know whats on your record, but if you didn't have trouble getting into the army then I dont think you'll have a problem with the trucking school. Good Luck though:biggrin_25525:

Don't worry, if somethings wrong with your eyesight, they'll send you over to wal-mart to get it dealt with. You have to pay of course, but whatever, at least they don't fire you for it.

Think about the price of all of the goods that you are carrying in a big rig. Central has something like 2800 drivers. That's TONS of money moving across the country at any one time and that's just at this company! The places that we move freight for need to be assured that its gonna get there without incident. Also, its an insurance thing. Most large trucking companies self insure, which I don't fully understand, but it required for that and for the state that's running the school.

Personally I'd rather have a school that checks more then you think is necessary then one that really doesn't give a #### and just takes anyone into their school. This school is serious about safety and honesty. I find it hard to believe that some wouldn't remember what's on their record. If you think you may be forgetting a seatbelt ticket (which is a misdemeanor if your license was suspended because of it) you can get a copy of your driving record from the DMV and it'll have all tickets that you've ever been charged with on it.

Common sense, tell 'em. Its that simple.

Get it writing! that is probably the biggest reason that I didn't go to work for Central (besides a few other personel ones) Russel flat out lie'd to me and I knew it when he did it, so I passed and went another way
