    I think PoleCrusher is referring to real motors like the Big Cam Series and early electronic Cummins, Mechanical and electronic cats, and 90's Detroits, those were all very capable low maintenance motors.

    You still can...the same tools that worked "back-in-the-day" still work on current models but you have to be willing to keep learning and evolving in order to keep pace with technology.
