Brokers in the old days used to work on percentage (10-12 Percent or +/-) and even back then you were not 100 % sure about what the load really paid. I don`t have to know what the broker makes, even though it would be satisfying to know for a piece of mind. I just know what I have to have and if they don`t pay I don`t take the load. I work on at least 95 percent of that assumption. Right now I am trying to hang in there because rates are very cheap and with the cost of three major expenses that have sky rocketed in the last 2 to 3 years (insurance / garage labor / parts) I am thinking sometime soon majority of small trucking company`s and O/O`s will be in the past, then maybe rates will go back up. I have always heard that the larger trucking company`s have wanted to put the smaller guy out of business and if that be so, I think these 3 major expenses could be a big plus to their effort. If you think about it anything and everything to do with truck prices have went up not counting what a new truck even cost these days. I look at some of the rates on DAT that brokers are posting and I see one lane for example used to pay $1000.00 about 4 to 5 years ago and they are quoting it now for $700 to $750. I do not book that load any more because it is to CHEAP. So, if truckers can`t work together looks like the worse it yet to come. Hope everybody has a wonderful holiday.
