Technical Problems Shut Down Nebraska Drivers License Offices

On what was to be the first day that Nebraska issued new, more high-tech drivers licenses, they are not issuing any licenses at all. Officials blame a power surge for creating a technical glitch that in turn is preventing the state from issuing any drivers' licenses at all. It is not known when the system will be back up and running.

The problem is a bit of an embarrassment at what was supposed to be the unveiling of the new licenses. "I'm excited about the new technology to help reduce fraud and identity theft," DMV Director Beverly Neth said Friday in a press release.

But the new system is more complicated. In fact, some DMV offices were scheduled to be closed today to help with the transition. Now, they all are.

Once up and running, Nebraskans seeking a drivers license will have to bring two documents that prove their residency. They also will no longer be issued a permanent license on site. Instead, they will be issued a temporary license, and get a permanent one in the mail.

BHW comment: What they failed to state in this article, is that the new facial recognition software thats being used is more than likely the glitch in the whole thing. Big brother just got a slap in the face.

Wait, so that great advance in technology that allowed everyone to get a shiny new license right then and there has been negated? So when is the state going to pay the people back all the money they wasted for those on site printers?

Hint: Never.
