I think I might know but just wondering why all these ads wanting to purchase MC numbers? Does FMCSA allow this transaction?

Dots gets transferred with corporations, there’s a way to do it it’s difficult but it’s possible.

not really on the up and up but I’ve seen it done.

Has to be a stock purchase to be complete legit. You can switch a S to a C to do it. Nothing in it can relate to an individual. Doesn't mean it isn't done illegal every day.

I’m considering reactivating my MC/DOT it is over 20 years old. I operated as sole proprietor and if I go back it will be as a llc and different company name.
According to FMCSA I can use my old MC, but have to get new DOT number.
Didn’t go into details why, but looks like the DOT number is attached to the company name.

I would think about changing your name. New company`s are getting quotes of insurance up to over $20,000 dollars for insurance on one rig. If you have a 20 years old company with a clean slate I would stay with it.

My authority was inactive for 10 years and was told that it will be considered a new venture as far as insurance go even if I keep the same DOT number.

@Billyjack may not work how you think it works. After 2 - 3 you would be considered a new entrant. Regardless if you have an existing MC from 20 years ago. Once insurance has lapse all that goes out the window.
