Ive already lived it many times.

My last one was a VW Rabbit slowly passing on my left down the trailer 4 breeds eyeing me through the mirror very heavily as we came up on the Throgs juct and cross bronx southbound on 95 etc. Its raining bad, and we are alone. Those of you who are too young to know what a VW rabbit was, its a version of a box, with a smoking desiel engine a version of the yugo and not much better. Strictly for commuting. Nothing else.

Sure enough they zip ahead, bounce into my lane in front and slap the brakes. They stopped short but I was not there anymore. The ABS and a bit of pavement across all lanes at that point allowed me to horse her by them. I did not like that view out of my window and wasnt sure if I was able to get it back from that close to sideways but she came around with the help of the trolley pulling down the trailer into line.

I pass that little rabbit sitting still. Now they have a herd coming up on them. Big trouble. Fortunately I did not see them again because coming up on the GWB several decisions needed to be made. I am more happier that I did not have to explain myself to FFE, even though I was well aware my rig was equipped with motion detectors against braking and hard handling. The fact that it was raining and endless ABS with tons of air helped alot that day.

Is this isolated to the Louisiana area, or is there evidence that this is becoming more widespread?

We have that issue in Massachusetts too, albeit mostly involving just 4 -wheelers. But in recent years the state Attorney General’s office has been cracking down on it and sending people to prison for attempted insurance fraud and mail fraud.

This case was before Werner lost that money and in Werner’s case it wasn’t a staged accident-just someone who didn’t know how to drive!

Same crap, it was not fault of a driver who got crashed into car, yet they lost. Same can be here, you ended up with some currupt judge, and you screwed

Not in this particular case. The federal authorities intervened and the perpetrators (and their conspirators) were charged and are looking at prison time, plus any money they made from the false claims will be forfeited. And knowing Uncle Sam they’ll probably end up owing more than what they made off the false claims. Unlike the Werner case(which was a STATE CIVIL matter),this case is a FEDERAL CRIMINAL matter (which carries much bigger penalties).

this is an excellent argument for MORE truck cams.

there will be a day, (maybe it's already being done) where cams will be installed on the mirrors, pointing back and straight down. it'll cost the companies some coin, but they will save on the green paper.
