So I’m on my first trip to MD, 30 miles from consignee, and no sooner than I get off the interstate where gps routed me, there’s a state trooper waiting who flags me down. He informs me I’m on a load restricted road, so I asked if I missed the sign and he says Nope it’s just state law that trucks have to stay on the main highway until their delivery and 30 miles is not considered local yet. Ugh ok lvl 2 inspection and wasting my time later he issues me a citation for it. I don’t have a problem with it as I was in the wrong and it’s only a fine/no points off my license, but my question is this...How are we to know it is restricted if there isn’t a sign stating this? Besides finding out the hard way like I just did, that is.
What other states have similar regulations that y’all have encountered? Trying to avoid a repeat if possible and I’m sure the information could help out other new/intermediate drivers as well.

It's just a money grab.
PA has lots of that.
Follow directions to a shipper or receiver; make turn on street as directions show, and there's a sign about 100 yards in the distance, "NO TRUCKS" and a cop car waiting.Dino soar, JForce28, FlaSwampRat and 5 others Thank this. -
I have a Rand McNally atlas(2019), and this route is not listed in there as restricted. To be fair it does say additional routes may be checked at DoT website. I know CA is strict but they normally at least have a sign posted from what I’ve seen so far. I guess I take it as a learning experience. When I called our safety guy he just chuckled and said “Welcome to the northeast.”

MD is funny, as in not really, but I guess you have learned.
The routes in the Atlas are marked and little lenience is given for making deliveries. It is spelled out in the MCA, more or less, but it takes some experience to read the tables that show it. Tailswing is another area they are likely to get you, too, too much trailer overhang behind the tandems on a 53 footer, mostly.
Many of our reefers won't slide up that much, but a few of the long slider ones will.truckdriver31, D.Tibbitt and Lonestar87 Thank this.
