Has anyone had problems with the IL Tollway? Yea I know this must be a can of worms but here is my problem.
I live in IL and use the tollway alot. I have EZ Pass. The transponder is the one on the front mounted to the front plate holder. This is where it is suppost to go. About half the time when I go thru the open road toll booths it does not read the transponder and I get a violation.
Never happened till this year. I have had this transponder for about four years. After a few calls I can pay without fines but the whole thing takes more time than I want to spend.
Anyone else have this problem? What do you do? Does the I Pass work better and does it work on E Z Pass tollways? Right now I am going thru the slow toll booths and I get the blue light and I know I'm getting charged. It always works at slow speed and no I do not go moe than 6o on open road toll.

I have mine mounted to the windshield and never have a problem.
-
Mine is on the sunvisor when i go through i pull it down. have not had any problems.
-
I take it you drive a Pete. I have a 379 and the metal visor gets in the way sometimes. Not for Pre Pass but they have a different kind of sender over the highway.
-
Am I understanding you correctly? You have it mounted to the license plate on the front bumper? Is that thing waterproof etc?
-
Yes, I use to work with a gate system that uses the same type of transponders and antennas, they are quite waterproof and designed to be attached to the two plate screws. Its different than the window type. Usually use on vehicles with RF insulated windshields
Its sounds like to me that your battery in the transponder has gone dead. They only last about 5 years. Plate frame transponders are not as reliable as the window mounted units. Just call them up and tell them you need a new transponder. -
Thanks for that about the transponder giving out. I called EZ Pass and they want $33 for a new transponder.
If the battery is going out then why does it work fine at slow speed like an off or on ramp? I have had this on for about four years. -
The transponder only uses the battery to boost the signal back to the antenna. If the battery is dead or weak it will rely on the transmitted energy that is being sent to it from the reader. The more time it has in range of the transmitter the more energy it can absorb and send back. Hope that answers your question.

Ok I see. Guess I might have to get a new transponder. Thanks.

his will look similar to this. Note the anti theft bolts securing the transponder
