Stryker cb users?

Well the taller the antenna will always help with range but chances are the way it was tuned last or something along those lines makes a diff..
Where ant is mounted,the ant stud coax ect ect all can play a huge roll in tx/rec..
In my case on side band(which doesnt really count)i have picked up ever so briefly italy and a few parts of europe,when skip conditions are good on am i have gone across the usa from eastern canada..When its on am mobile to mobile i have squeezed out 40 mi..There are some who almost double that..One fella with a cascadia and a 102 whip on a 5" shaft did 75 mi..He runs a 955,i have a 955 and the fella on the other end of the 75 was useing a anytone 6666 but he was in a 4 wheeler with ant through the roof..All 3 radios used same tech so its not the radio in my case..Something im missing in my antenna set up..

Usually cause of the grounding i bet..I didnt have much noise in the two volvos i ran...Pwr/gnd to the battery,braided gnd straps on both sides of door hinges..Wire brushed off that blk finish on mirror arms for ant mount..

 

A two-foot antenna will cripple RF performance no matter what the radio or who the tuner. The taller, the better.

 

Yep. Currently using a 7ft Firestik

 

I didn't know Firestick has a 7ft antenna.
I think the Helical antennas attempt to do what the 102 whip does but I'm not sure they achieve that with their shorter whip and coils.

 

Yes they do have a 7ft fg ant..I preferr the skip shooter...

 

I found this interesting article and your right! Down the page a 7ft Skip shooter comes as close to performance of a 108"(9ft) Whip as you can get if the information is factual.

I'm not sure where I could put a 7ft stick antenna on a dump truck.
The Helicals come close at 92% efficiency. The 7ft SkipShooter is 96% efficient.
I bet one day we'll see very small antennas with all the performance of a long tall whip antenna.

 

Yep, if/when we get to VHF / UHF. Otherwise, the antenna physics don't get us there unless we can access satellites or magic or maybe the Green New Deal

As for mount if your mirror is like the cascadias there is a mount and it will have to lean anout 45 deg otherwise it will lean back to far at at highway speed..
Ss makes ant down to 4ft i think..
