I thought they told Me, I’d have to change the timing gear and cover to convert it to s mechanical. It was such a good engine, but didn’t pull as good, with the PEEC crap on it. A real flop of a set up. Cat Dealer broke teeth off the bull gear, and cracked the cone cover, when they rebuilt the fuel pump for $2100.00 in 1999. That was the end of my dealings with Cat.

3406 b and c in the same screenshot.

Its a c. The top bar will always say b, the lower one is actually what it is. Ive seen 3406b in the top and peec in the bottom.

I now have some questions about the the internals on This truck and the safe hp area. But I’ll post that in a new thread. But of course I’ll comb the threads first.

Some reading material from the CAT PEEC manual...

The 3406B PEEC engine was introduced in 1987 and remained in production until 1993. During the six year production cycle, Caterpillar built over 32,000 PEEC engines and many are still in operation today. Serial number prefixes for 3406B/C PEEC engines are:
    • 8TC – 3406B - 1987 to 1990

    • 5YG – 3406B - 1990 460Hp engines only

    • 2EK – 3406B - 1991

    • 4CK – 3406C - 1992 - 1993
