Ive backed off on that. I have for years followed the AMD and Intel cards and if you were into the 1000 series Im still back in the 600 series. So the next jump for me is at least the 1000 series years after they were brand new.
I used to buy the latest and greatest and it was a mixed success. Generally good. However Ive learned to maybe spend 4 cards for the cost of one shiny 1660. Even though today you might only need one card. I see it as a team of horses in gaming. Examining a monitor that is into the 30 plus range and refresh rates upwards above 144 hertz at 4K at the moment. If I was to buy that monster I would expect it to accomodate the next 10 years.
Gaming has gotten both bloated I think the COD MW new is approaching 150 gig in disk space. And that introduces another issue. The next motherboard for the big system which I expect to be my final build will accomodate 12 to 15 SATA drives. So excluding several arrays for backup there will be 10 in raid 5 with like 5 to 10 terabyte in capacity at speeds rivaling SSD The memory at 128 gig will seem pathetic.
I have no reason to expect software to stop bloating so its necessary to bulk up in capacity to hold it.
That and the power bill. Its already around 40 dollars a month supporting the machine and cooling it even though it has two radiators running. In winter it functions as a space heater. So it gives back.RidgeRunner731, FerrissWheel, G13Tomcat and 3 others Thank this. -
