That's correct.

At both driving companies I've worked at we were told not to reschedule anything or call the shipper or receiver without prior consent from dispatch because we could easily call the wrong people, give the wrong delivery number or something and REALLY screw something up. Our job is to give an ETA and that's it.

When I was a dispatcher I used to discourage my drivers from calling for the same reasons listed above. I would, however, encourage them to call if they needed driving directions because the person who works there probably knows the best way to get in and out.
