Excellent point(s).
Here's some of the astronomical costs associated with common wear out / maintenance parts for the trusty Shaker.....

@FerrissWheel do u have the new t680? The one i was running was a 2020 anD that tranny was such a PITA . and couldnt stand all the technology in that truck. Mine liked to turn on the jake breaks automatically when reached governed speed no matter if i had jake switch on or off... The only thing i liked was what u were saying about it being easy to backup , for me it is always smoother with a clutch tho. Just my take on it. It is hard to backup this truck i have now cant see #### out the window have to open the door like a super trucker to see wheres trailer going... I do notice them auto trucks have WAYY more room between the seats. and its not just the absense of a shifter , i think they design it with more room . oh well, hope u enjoy that truck , mine was real nice on the inside .

Yeah, I was blown away at the local truck center in Bangor when they told me replacement shoes were only $14 new. I was in disbelief, thought they were liners or remans.
In other news there are now three bales of mulch hay between the house and septic tank. Maybe 4 inches of slush. Just hope the deer dont have a feast before the precip gets here. Wanting the rain snow to glue it together some. I left the hay in slices from the baler. I am hoping they wont blow away in the wind. Sounds like this winter will be as interesting as last.
Five inches expected over the next 24 hours. With rain on either side. Then rain again on Saturday. I will take itRidgeRunner731, WesternPlains, Dave_in_AZ and 3 others Thank this. -

I think the T680 is a wide cab along the lines of T2000 Pete 387/587 and the other integral sleeper trucks of the pacar line. More room but more noticeable without the shifter in the way.
One of the advantages to being O/O you can get most of the new technology stuff shut off or at least minimized. Probably should have had the Jakes come on if I exceeded my governed speed of 111. It's just a question of sitting down with the service folks and going through the screens of optionsRocks, WesternPlains, FlaSwampRat and 2 others Thank this. -
Yeah, mine is a 2020, fullsized midroof, with an extended frame. Got the new Paccar Trans with an X15..... Same deal. Anything over 68, the jakes automatically slow it down. But its the smoothest auto ive ever driven. Ive touched the DT12 Eaton ultrashit+, Volvo Ishift, Fuller advantage, and now this Paccar trans. And some Allison in a box truck, i still miss my humble 9speed. Miss the old 13 more. But the smoother gear transitions and actual decent creep mode makes it far more tolerable.
Compared to the coffin sleeper freight i was running with Coreslab and CMC its a palace. Am glad they got the shifter on to the column in these models, never liked the one in the center console on my last 680. (That was back when running reefer.)
I think ive noticed a slightly widened cab in them as well. But that might have been a through the years update idk. All my manuals were 15 and back. So idk if they do something legit different in a same year model.WesternPlains, FlaSwampRat and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
