yep... but the roof is 10' high...antenna wouldn't last a day up there...sides of the box are a fiberglass type stuff, so no mounting to that either...tried mounting on the mirror arms, but never could get a decent ground, plus the way the mirrors are mounted to the door, I doubt they could support a antenna very long without working loose...
Like I said, not every vehicle is going to be user friendly and have a perfect spot to mount a CB antenna...sometimes you just have to make do with what ya got.

Fender mounting makes it more directional..
-
Actually, a fender mount antenna might perform about the same(as far as directivity), as a 7 ft skip shooter antenna mounted on a mirror mount. Like the cascadia trucks.rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
Well nightstalker there are not many options on a cascadia to mount any ant unless you own the trk and get real crazy..Directional?? Not so sure cause there is just not much metal under it at all..Without useing a field strength meter to map it out i would think its a lil scattered..
The box trk rite off the bat can go mag mount on top of the box...Assumeing its not fibreglass it would be an incredable tx/rec up there with a tri/quad mag and ant of choice..
Just gotta remember low over passes n bridges in his routes..
A base load sirio 5000 would be perfect up there and just slow down for low clearance area....A new whip is not expensive at all....Mind you a 102" or ant tall ant would be so much better....Night Stalker10 and jessejamesdallas Thank this. -
Never noticed mine being all that directional...Could shoot skip with no problems while driving, and locally 30 mile was about the limit...
Had thought about building a DDRR antenna on the roof, but never got around to it since the fender mount actually worked out better than I figured it would...Still have the van, but no radio in it right now. -
Well jjd you seem to know way more than me but from what lil i know it is directional..Not sayin its a bad idea or how directional but wouldnt you rather have a not so directional..
Unless your a super man and can see the radio waves i dont know how you know what you maybe missing by directional tx/rec..
No disrespect bub but i think your missing out..jessejamesdallas Thanks this. -
I'm sure it was directional to a certain extent...when I think of "directional" I think of my beam at the house...with that antenna, I don't hear squat out the back door...But with the van, I didn't have a problem hearing behind me, or off the sides...Now I maybe I wasn't hearing all I could out the back, but I could hear well enough it was never a issue...
Another thing with that van, unlike some box vans, mine the sides are all fiberglass, and the only real metal is the doors and front fenders! Even the hood is plastic. So not allot of metal surface to reflect the signal off of.
I would try and fab up a DDRR type antenna on the roof, heck there's 16' to play with up there, but I'm not sure how much longer I'm going to keep this truck, or trade it in on a newer one...Things got over 408,000 miles on it, and all those miles are City miles, not like a Big truck with a lot of miles on it from driving state to state. -
Yeah i mentioned "if" his roof of the box was metal it would be a killer spot to mount a base loaded sirio 5000....Add some bonding straps..I think it would be alot of realestate to bounce signal from..If his box is fb then maybe a different approach is req..

Yes sir I agree. I guess I didn’t finish my thought in the above post. I was basically agreeing with Jesse when he said:
“Like I said, not every vehicle is going to be user friendly and have a perfect spot to mount a CB antenna...sometimes you just have to make do with what ya got.”
With today’s vehicles, it can definitely be a challenge with mobile antennas, as far as an efficient antenna system goes.jessejamesdallas Thanks this. -
Its all good sir..
Many times my thoughts are ahead of my posts and i sometime dont get my full thought out..
No matter what i find that many times i learn a lil something..I also know that there are times i thought i understood something only to be wrong and i get corrected, its awsome to have so many here willing to share..Night Stalker10 Thanks this.
