I am a diabetic as well. I would caution you to watch this disease very closely. Like others have mentioned, watch your starchy food, like bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, etc. I now eat primarily protein, leafy vegetables, and veggies like broccoli and cauliflower, etc. You have to watch these too, they will tell you you can eat as much veggies as you want, but, dont do like I did and eat a big ole pile of anything, you can over do veggies too. I've found I have to limit my red meat to about 1 or 2 servings a week, stick mostly with chicken, turkey, pork, etc. Very seldom do I eat bread, and that is hard, I love bread. For me, breakfast consists of two boiled or scrambled eggs, and 1/2 cup of cottage cheese. Then lunch a salad with some grilled chicken on it, and supper is real light, maybe some grilled chicken and a little broccoli or some cabbage. Have a very small snack in the afternoon, protein if possible. If not, a small piece of fruit works good, or lately I've found that the small cans of low sodiom V8 work, also, sometimes I have a can of Vienne sausages. I've found the canned stuff to be real handy.
You can do it, its all a change of mind set. I'm not going to tell you it will be easy, but, it aint that bad either, once you get used to it. Just make up your mind that your going to do what you have to do. I've resigned myself that I just cant have certain things. They will probly tell you in Diabetis class that you can have anything, in moderation, which is true, but let me tell you, its alot easier to keep the sugars under control if you dont do the sweets and stuff.
Also, you have to find time to at least walk 30 minutes each day. That really aint that hard to do.
Take care of yourself or the disease will crump you quicker than you think!
