UPS Freight Teaming

I inquired with UPS Freight about leasing my truck on with them as a solo driver but they were only looking for teams at the moment.. I found the rates offered to be very low and wonder how owners can stay profitable. Their on boarding is between 6 and 8 weeks also..

 

I really haven't been at the o/o game very long and have no experience in what a team truck is capable of. Perhaps it would be best to share with someone who's been at it longer than me.

Basically what UPS offers is $1.45 per mile.. Minus 0.50 for fuel and 0.15 for maintenance.. Minus 0.50 for driver pay (This is what I figure most anyone can make as a company driver). You're left with 0.30 for truck payment and every other expense that pops up.

For me, I feel $1.50 is the absolute lowest that I could run my tractor in a solo leased on operation..

 

I agree on one set of tractor tires (Ten total) every year. It is our habit to have the company whatever they are replace all of them in late October before winter. And put the best of the drives onto the trailer where possible. Rest go into spares pile or onto another tractor.

Plan on about 250,000 miles out of quality tires virgin. Not recap etc. We did about 210,000 on a original new set in 10 months in our last team situation.

Our last UPS tracking data showed a 24 hour transit from Maine upstate to Little Rock UPS distribution. Over a holiday period no less.

I don't know about you, but if that's trucking, its a one hell of a team journey to make it.

The tire information is useful. Really good compared to what they were back then.
