Thank You Heavy... If he truly wants to know about a 3406E and its capabilities he should speak with 550hp who is now pushing more than 1000HP. He is one of the most knowledgable people I know when it comes to the kitty's.

Everybody's ipinion and experiences are different. My point is that IF something goes wrong with the 3406E motor, it USUALLY is harder and more expensive to fix than MOST motors. Not all of the time, but most of the time.
This guy has an issue that pretty much just confirms what I said. Others may have ran this motor 1.5 million miles with no issues and got 9MPG. Good for them but if they were to have an issue, I would be willing to bet it was an expensive and time consuming fix. -
Most likely the only reason this man had a problem with the motor not starting is because the ECM got fried by someone not completely unhooking the batteries and ECM. Thats it. I personally would rather have a E model than my ACERT. The E models are easy to diagnose (once a person understands the motor and electronics), cheaper, easier to find parts, and the aftermarket has plenty of options for high performance. Yeah the older mechanicals were one of the best during their run. But with modern trucking, emissions, and many other reasons the mechanicals have become outdated for over the road and even most local trucking jobs. If you would like to debate this farther we should start a new thread, so this one doesn't get filled with debate and not help the gentleman get his truck up and running again.insertnamehere Thanks this.

The you guys go for it. Just don't post here looking for answers with your electrical probelms when the motor does not run properly.

NEWS FLASH!
I was not talking to the person who started this thread. He has a problem and asked for help. Kind of funny though how all of these self proclaimed experts talk about how great the 3406E motor is yet none of them can help fix it.
My point was, which has been validated by this thread is that the 3406E motor is difficult to work on. The E motor took a long time for CAT to work the bugs out. Is it a good motor, no, I would say it is a GREAT motor. Until something electrical comes up and then you chase your tail, far more with this motor than others.
My apologies to the orginator of this thread as he has a problem and needs help. -
I'd say if it had to do with fuel you would have noticed a change in the performance of the motor before that fatal day. Check wires!! I had a simular prob with a truck of mine. Parked on Friday, wouldnt start Saturday morning. I spent 2 days trying to figure out what was wrong. Truck wouldnt even hit on starting fluid. I unhooked cam sencor, took it out, put it back in and the truck fired up, ran half a day and the truck died in the middle of the road, and would not start. I unhooked the sencor, hooked it back up, and the truck took off. Turned out the wires in the plug had coroded and broke. Bought a new pigtale, wired it up, havent had any trouble since.

Check, wiggle, pull, plg and unplug that cam sencor wire, it could be in the plugin, sencor may be good!
