I worked for Marten for over a year and I loved it. While on a run to Denver, I got really sick out in Cheyenne, WY to where I was admitted into the ICU for over a week. They relayed the load, put my husband (who was my trainer/co-driver) up in a hotel and then when i was strong enough to head back home, they chartered me a flight back to FL... of course I had to pay for it but they worked with us...the only reason I left is because I got an awesome opportunity with another company but I will never have a bad thing to say about them!!!

Yeah, Marten seems to deal with medical issues that crop up much better than most companies do. When I almost severed one of my fingers a few months back (due to my own stupidity, so I won't get into the how's and why's), their willingness to follow my instructions (I have a medical background) to the letter not only saved my finger, but allowed me to return to work the very next day without any trouble. Last year, I got a serious case of food poisoning in the middle of nowhere. I self-treated the problem (not the first time having to), but Marten still insisted on calling regularly, and having drivers check up on me as they came through, to see for themselves I was okay.

I've also been called upon every now and then to check up on drivers who fail to check in or respond to messages who also have known medical issues, even if such issues aren't suspected to be the problem, but just to be safe (again, due to my medical background).

Nice to know that, if I "dropped off the grid" for no reason, someone would very shortly care enough to find out why.

I think u guys should listen around in the truck stops, docks, and whatever. Most of these companies have been crap for many years. U don't think they are going to back u up do u?:biggrin_25511: They will make a crap load of money off of u and just like the military.....expendable! But for many people with absolutely no knowledge of the industry, just putting on a little chrome and cheap stickers and off and away....... a super owner operator!

steelersfan, I believe it was you who asked about this, I went thru their lease plan payed my off and moved on. They have a very good program actually one of the few around where O/Os can get benifits medical, dental, vision etc... their notes are not bad at all you will get plenty of miles and when I left in 07 the only thing was the fuel stops had to match over all they are bad as some but a whole lot better then most. Also there are none of this crap a dollar buy out or a balloon payment you make the last payment you get your title

Well Medicine woman, you ARE the exception to the rule. You musta had one HELLA good dispatcher. I got treated like dirt after Christine Senti quit. Michelle Rud dang near starved me outta my truck again (a pair of 750 mile 72 hour trips is great miles for the week, what are you ######## about?), and then labelled me as "difficult to get out of the house" when I demanded a different dispatcher. I was only difficult because I refused to go sit in Mondovi for three days waiting for Michelle to pull her head out of her ### and find me something. I kept saying "you want me to leave the house? show me the dispatch." Allison Gorton did me even worse. It took Bob Smith to straighten things out and get me back on track with decent miles and decent treatment.

When they fired me for "overall unsatisfactory performance" (99+% ontime del avg over 3 yrs 29 wks) and found that that wasn't a good enough reason to deny unemployment. They appealed, adding insubordination to the firing. But then found out that refusing an illegal direct order (drive to mondovi immediately after del even though I was on my 17th hour of activity) is NOT insubordination. They then used a couple of logbook violations that I had gotten warnings for from the dot cops at the wisconsin scale. Problem with that was that I was able to show them that I wasn't cheating to earn more money, that I had simply made errors, the dot didn't even cite for them. warnings only.

They then tried to use my lack of communication... but that got shot down too. Have any of you EVER had to ask permission to take a 10 hour break? I never have. So that got thrown out too. Nothing they tried to use worked. So now I'm getting money right out of their self insured pockets for nothing. One would think that they'd atleast make me EARN it. So much for common sense.

I have worked for Marten for about 6 months and have seen nothing good about them yet. I choose to stay out three to four weeks at a time and even then with 2-3 weeks of notice they outright refuse to get me home when i request. I usually arrive at least a day late. I run 48 state out of Va. about 10 miles from the Chester terminal. I am in NJ as I type this. supposed to be in VA on 7/8/10 and they just told me i HAD to deliver this load to Wi on the 9th. Then they would route me home.

Yup, since they did away with the missed home time, many many other drivers, minus the brownnoser butt kisser cheerleader types haven't been home on time.
Planners and dispatcher do not care if we the driver has a dr.'s appoinment or what not. A couple of drivers i know, had to park thier truck at the nearest terminal and get flown home then back to the truck, so they could renew thier cdl, because Marten wouldn't get them home, and they had plenty of notification that, hey i'i gotta get home to renew the cdl.
Spent the last 5 days in laredo yrd( thank god for the $100. PER DAY layover pay) at the yrd there due to no frieght over the weekend, and out of the 30 drivers i talked to, 0nly 3 have been home on time, 3 times since they did away with the $50.00 per day.

To those cheerleaders, and brwonnosers, i challenge you to give us your dispatcher phone #s to ask them why you get home on time, and many many other drivers cannot.
