Both have their own pros and cons.

Main thing about the big companies is their big bank roll. They'll do almost anything to keep the truck rolling.

I like being right there in the middle. One dispatcher per "zone", e logs, no forced dispatch, pick your route/fuel and 80 mph trucks work for me.
They are big enough to keep us moving but not so big where EVERYTHING has a rule behind it.

Small if you want to work till you die, large if you’d like to retire

The company I work for has 25 drivers. That is small by the overall grand scheme of trucking but for a milk hauler in western NY it's probably one of the largest. I never have to fuel at a truck stop, I think the last time I went to one it was having diner with the family. I drive minimum 6 sometimes 7 days a week. Fuel and DEF are both a available at the yard. Maintenance on the trucks is acceptable things like tires, brakes, lights, suspension, oil changes, grease jobs, anything to do with DOT is usually in good shape. Cosmetics especially on trailers is not exactly stellar. Part of that is some of the drivers aren't particularly great. I have seen numerous incidents of some drivers hitting the milk house and caving the top of the back compartment in. He keeps those drivers because he has a very hard time finding new people. There are things about this job you must accept.... It's the nature of hauling milk. I knew this going into it, many that come here have no clue. They discover the nature of it and quit. FACT cows never stop, bad weather, holidays and weekends be ######.

The truck im driving is a 2017 t880 with 94k miles 18 speed stick. I like the truck. It's probably better then what allot of smaller companies offer.

It is very nice to park your truck at home, but doesn't that also mean you have to spend time at work/on the road waiting around while your truck is serviced? Parking at the yard, whicj is how I work means they service/repair the truck while I'm home.

I have taken it to the shop personally once, other than that they have been good about just taking it to the shop (it’s two hours away) and bringing it back to me over the weekend. This weekend I decided to work... which I am regretting somewhat haha.
