Was driving a 2015 Pete that had the "gotta lock the drivers door with the key" thingamajig. Id always hit the door lock button to be sure passenger door was locked. Hadn't stashed my spare yet and sure enough, the driver door locked with the button. Didn't have me keys or phone but the fuel desk was helpful and knew who to call. $60 got me in. I figured it was my mistake and didn't want to involve the office. Lesson learned. Did notice the button to lock the doors would lock drivers door once a month or so.
A driver I was talking to said what Chinatown said earlier. He recommended I should walk over to fuel islands and ask everyone with a similar model Pete if they would let me try their key. He said there is only a half dozen or so different key cuts. I was already waiting on lock out guy so not sure how that would work out. Interesting concept for sure.
Should a driver pay for leaving their keys inside the truck?

My passenger door was rarely opened. Id hit the lock button when leaving truck in case I had inadvertently hit the unlock button while driving. The curtain would sometimes block my view of the passenger side indicator so I just got in a habit of hitting "lock" before id climb down.
I would do this as I was climbing down so drivers door was already open when Id hit the lock button. Occasionally the drivers door would lock when I did this. It wasnt supposed to but it did.
Now that Im thinking about it, it would be a better habit to hit the lock button before opening drivers door. That way the drivers door would definitely be unlocked when I close it and Id have to lock it with the key, like usual.
Once you have a key stashed its not really all that important. I found a good spot in the battery box. I could access that spare key quicker than fishing for the keys in my pocket. Just make sure its not too noticeable just in case. -
when i was driving the FLD's i was issued enough keys to idle and lock the doors and lose a couple both times
i just got assigned the 2020 mack with electric door locks and one key
i am hitting the unlock button every time and will try to make more keys
have not read the book yet but i hear the right door lock when i get rolling
if i can pay for the lock out or the getting unstuck with out reporting a delay i will be glad to do it and keep my good reputation -
Just don't do what one of our drivers did. She locked herself out of her truck, called me to let me know she had a locksmith on the way, and everything was fine.
An hour later she called me back. The locksmith opened the truck for her. she paid him, and then as she was getting ready to go she noticed the passenger side door wasn't locked. She had a good sense of humor about it but she had some extra keys made just in case.InTooDeep, AModelCat, spyder7723 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I just want to say on a Freightliner it's fairly normal for the button to ''fall'' when you slam the door closed.

I'd say the company should pay for any #### ups. You get what you pay for.

2020 cascadia you have to lock from the outside. Guess to many OMG's so they fixed it

I did 3 times, in the span of 5 weeks, each time cost me $70. I now have 4 spares, my main key ring is ignition/door only, always in my pocket is a keyring with spare door/side compartment/company fuel key, I have two other spares hidden on the truck.

I'm sure most would agree...
Once getting locked out of your own truck would be enough experience to keep a spare key in your other pocket.
