    If anything I was worried about that one Ginseng (Spelling) gum from china I experimented with once. A over the counter purchase.

    15 miles later my heart ran away at 70 on the PA Turnpike. I was forced to the shoulder and the heart went to the max rate for about 40 minutes while I sweated it out. The cell was in my hand ready to go while I waited to see what will happen.

    Whatever was in that gum was definitely a amphetamine or speed type drugs. Legal? Lets call it unregulated.

    It was something I learned not to do after that episode. I was thinking if the heart broke it will either kill me through a rythm and timing disruption before anyone got there or its going to damage something important and end my trucking livelhood at that time which in 1998 was something I have built up that year in Arkansas. And I knew I was not prepared to die in that sleeper on the side of that PA tpike for a stupid stick of gum from china. I refused to accept that.

    //semi rant.

    (I just finished a round of million dollar nuclear scanning just this last month, the heart is a battleship with pipes super clean. Thats not what is going to be ever a problem. Not that. It will be something else. Either a stroke or some form of leukemia or something.)

    From my experience (outside of an amphetamine) the best stay awake thing is to drink some Mt Dew or strong coffee. I never really cared much for that other crap. I mentioned an amphetamine because up till the 80s a driver could legally use them.

    Who knows. I dropped it at a drop and hook. Dispatch said I was lucky because it was Coke product they were able to use most of it. Could have been real bad hahaha.

    5 hour energy was a "dont leave home without" item in the oilfields. Id mix it in a bottle of water and take swigs as necessary. Of course I drank a lot of coffee too but after a while coffee looses its punch.
    I didnt use it often tho so maybe thats why a swig would work so well.

    I took one of those Rhino Strength pills once. It worked great but a few hours later I woke up with my heart racing and felt like I would fall over. Before I laid back down I propped the hotel door open cause I thought I might die lol. Figured hotel staff would come to see what was going on in case I didnt wake up. Didnt die. Didnt get robbed. Did learn lesson.

    Here's a truck stop cure for ya. If you get a bad case of jock itch pour a bottle of rubbing alcohol on it. It's guaranteed to cure you.;)

    The only thing I found that would keep me awake in the old days, was smoking a cigarette. I'm a non-smoker so one cig was like throwing a lit match in a pile of leaves. It would give me energy and a vicous headache. Both made me NOT want to sleep.

    Everything else like coffee or energy drinks would give a a few minutes of alertness, a quick need to use the bathroom, and then a sugar crash or return to dead tired.
    Sleep is the only cure for tiredness. Smoking didn't seem to have the let down that sugar & caffeine did.
