My understanding from friends there in the office word went out to drivers this morning. I know some people thst were there 25 years. I left 3 years ago because it was obvious then they were coming apart due to management greed. The 2 indicted creeps knew full well what the were doing.

You know, buddy, did you ever think it would get this way? I mean, when we started, trucking was a respectable job, with good bosses, for the most part. I wouldn't wish trucking on an enemy today. It may not be fair to say, but I'm sure glad I'm done with it, and it's all the cell phones fault,,o_O Everything was just fine until that came out.

no, no i did not. i had a job, anytime i wanted one, as you did. we had no worries of closures of trucking companies. we had no worries of rookies making bonehead mistakes that cost the company tons of money.

we went to work each day, went home daily, or weekly, or monthly..

people actually showed respect as you alluded to, to us, as we did to them.

people (truckers and or 4 wheelers) would stop and ask you if you were ok, if you were on the side of the road.

there may have been those that took "speed", but those were the gypsies (old name for o/o's) and some truck stops sold beer, but no one walked out stone cold drunk.

my "vices" were gallons of coffee, and just about any candy bar of the past.

we actually walked INTO the truck stop or road side cafe` to take a leak, flirt with the waitress, and be on our way.

as long as there will be CDL Mills, government paid training, and a flood of company owners taking all they can and screwing over anyone for that almighty dollar.........this crap will never end.

in the end, i "see" maybe all of about 30 or so trucking companies in this country, as equally as possible, sectioning/dividing the country into "grids" and servicing them, with maybe switch out yards to exchange loads for the next company to take thru thier zoned area.

i do not "see" that many o/o's in business either, in the future.....

You're right it has really changed lately. If I wasn't paying for my daughter's education. I wouldn't even be driving. I'm looking to get into something. I'm not a doom & gloom type guy. We live in a great country with great opportunities. The time for me has come to move on from trucking. I appreciated my time. All the best to my fellow roadrunners. I lost one of my best friends last week fellow trucker. We were like two morning birds & night owls. It makes it that much harder not having my brother to run the roads together.

Celadon has been on the ropes for years, poorly run company by executives, once the founder died last year it was only a matter of time.

i cannot pin point the exact time, day, or year, when this industry starting to nose dive.

i wish i could, then i'd go back in time, and instead of taking the left fork in the road of career decisions, i'd go right...

In 10 years all the trucks will say SWIFT on them.
The world is a corporate plantation.

I'm right with you that's the difference between foresight and hindsight. I'm at that stage now. I'm ready to move in different direction
