UPS Freight Diary:

Black Friday is the best day of the year. I even tried to work Thanksgiving, but they didn't send anyone. Worth a shot! Lol

 

I signed up for Thanksgiving also. Was a little disappointed about it because I got home at noon that day. Ate with the family real fast and went right to bed anticipating getting the call to work and it never came. Ruined my Thanksgiving. I'm never signing up to be on call on a holiday again.

 

I ran into a sup before I left early Thursday morning. Asked him how many runs. He said zero, and to enjoy my holiday. Beautiful.

As long as I KNOW what the day will bring, I'm good. Surprises suck.

 

Lucky you! When I came in there was no one around. Few days before they were acting as though they needed a ton of drivers to work on Thanksgiving. So I thought for sure I was getting called.
They probably moved those loads with Coyote drivers!

 

Well...or they remembered they hired 200 drivers this year and had far more manpower than they anticipated. Lol

 

They are still running out of drivers by early Friday.

 

I guess someone has to get there first. He does have a big money run. Not bad for 15 years seniority. It used to take 25-30 years to get a run like that unless you started on Thursday.

 

The last Thanksgiving I volunteered for I thought I had hit the jackpot. I ran to Jackson Ms Thursday on a lay down and came home Friday which was also a holiday at the time. I thought for sure I would get ground volume coming back, but no such luck. At the time air volume paid straight time on holidays and my pick got me straight time both days, plus the holiday pay, but not the double time I had hoped for. I did get Huddle House for Thanksgiving Dinner!

 

Unbelievable.

 

Huddle House is second only to Waffle House in my heart.
