    ordinaryguy,

What is your hometime like on that dedicated account? Do you know of other good accounts with Werner that pays well, good hometime and maybe even for team driving? How did you get on the Anheuser Bush account? Did they give you a choice or do you say what you want and wait for an opening?
My hubby is still in training. I am trying to help him learn some of the things that no one tells him about. This site has been a big help.

hometime varies, i am usually home every weekend or every other weekend. I've driven for Werner on their 48 State OTR when i started, Net Ops, and Anheuser Busch. The account I run on, goes as west as Colorado....but we are labeled as Long Haul...I run alot of Southeast, and northern midwest like Wisconsin and Minnesota. I also do go out to the east coast sometimes. When I was running 48 State in the summer of '07, the planner for AB called me and asked me if i wanted to try it out since i live in Indianapolis on the I-70 Corridor...Ive been on this account off and on for about 2 years. Since you guys live outside of Dayton, he might have a good choice for accounts, he needs to call about a week before he is done with training to try to set something up. Best of luck to yous guys.

Thanks for the positive comments!! I was very concerned about Werner as a Newbie in a training class currently. Can anyone tell me if what my recruiter told me in correct? She told me .35 cents a mile at first? That sound high to me for a newbie, and do you think I can make her give it to me in writing? I won't be going out until October 2009 after graduation. Thanks to all you fellow trucker with more experience us newbies won't be left out in the cold! I am going to tell all my classmates about what you Pros let me.

    Thanks again,
    NEWBIE IN HOUSTON TX

you will be making .26 cents a mile if you go OTR...if you get all the bonuses, it averages out to be about .35 cents a mile...

what are the bonuses that you are talking about this is going to be my last resort if this class b job don't come though i will be calling Werner on Monday just to ask some questions i have been pre-hired with them and the one time i call sounded like that person was very busy and sounded like she had no time for me so i cut it short with her i am in Minnesota and i heard that if i get in there i should be all right getting a dedicated account but what is stopping me from just going is that i have a 2 year old and the wife will be having our 2nd one come november and i don't want to miss the birth so is it better to wait till he is born or should i do it now any help or abvice will help

    Thanks

I myself would like to see the numbers on that. I can't find my drivers handbook so not sure I remember what the bonuses I do not get are. If I am correct I know there is an achievement bonus for running a certain amount of miles a month and it tops at .02/mile . There is the annual achievement bonus of .005/mile which you get after a year and not before or if you do not work at least a year. There is the fuel bonus which you have to get good mileage to eligible to "win" now. I think there are 20 a month so good luck with this, but if you get the big one it would be nice.

That is all the bonuses I am aware of, there may be more but I would not know as I have never got any except the annual achievement bonus. If my math is right this will take you to .285/mile, still a good deal shy of that .35/mile they tell you first year drivers average.

Ask the recruiter to tell you all the bonuses available, what the max per mile the bonus is worth, add them up and I would bet you do not come up with .35/mile. Before I started I asked them to break down the .35/mile thing for me and they could not do it, I doubt they can do it now either.

Not trying to scare you away as I still work for werner and in my first year I averaged more than the .35/mile but it is from a dedicated account not otr. You can do OK with werner, just don't get your hopes too high to start out.

Ah hell i dont remember what the bonuses are, the best thing to do when you're just regular OTR is take the per diem...I make pretty good money on my dedicated gig...and since most of my loads are over 44K, i am nowhere near the fuel lottery heh although i do keep my MPG aroundf 6.9 or 7.0....

To the newbies and the students still in school, Werner isnt for everyone, it just depends on if you can get dedicated or not...Best of luck with whatever you do.

Hello BadInfluence(Tara). This is Cracker. I have been reading your thread and I must say that it is well thought and positive. Not a common theme for trucking threads.

Also must say that Drivers sure have gotten Prettier and more articulate over the years.

Congratulations to You and to all on here for what you have accomplished with Werner.

I think we hear so much complaining now days in the trucking industry out of frustration. A lot of the people in this industry cannot seem to ever figure out the company they work fors' system. This leads to frustration and eventually anger toward the company.

Great thread, keep up the good work guys.
