Often trucking companies will recruit in the UK because the guys over there don't know the scuttlebutt and truth about what it is like to work for those companies. And the companies can string a whole bunch of lies about pay, etc. Then you arrive and find that it was a whole fairytale, and the reality is pretty darn frightening. There are reasons, and good ones, that Cdn. truckers won't work for the companies recruiting in the UK-low pay, dispatchers demanding cheating on log books, trucks that are mechanically unsafe, dispatchers taking bribes to get you a good load, etc. And the Cdn. gov't itself view truckers as "necessary vermin" and treats you like crap when you send in all your meal receipts with your income tax. You can only deduct 50 to 60% of your meal costs. (Cdn. "snivel servants" working for the gov't can get up to $70 a day in meal allowances and not need to show receipts.) Any company recruiting in the UK is planning to steal from you, in some way.
